Odds of Biden stepping down

Ok so I voted a 30% chance Biden quits. Maybe that's too high of odds but I don't think 1 in 3 is necessarily unreasonable in these circumstances. The public face of what the campaign and allies are saying is irrelevant because he's in until his not. So what happens if that 1 in 3 comes to pass?

I think there is a pathway to smooth the runway for Harris if he agrees to do so, which seems likely in such a scenario. I'm not going to entertain the idea of any other nominee than her because we really veer into crazy West Wing writing territory about something that's not going to happen. While her approval is not what we would call amazing it would erase almost the entire approval gap between the candidates and mollify the largest concerns of the D base. There is likely less downside politically as long as she isn't seen as usurping which great pains would be taken to avoid creating that impression. Less known candidates will be more vulnerable to being defined negatively which would be much less of a problem with her since she went through the primary cycle and has been VP. In short I think this is workable electorally if he decides to go in this direction.

100% will not step down but he should

Think the Joe Biden vote is the ham sandwich vote this cycle. I didn't want to vote for the other guy is a pretty powerful argument.

Besides if anyone really needs replacing it should be Trump not Joe.

Yes, even a smelly ole shoe with laces missnig is better than Trump, but Biden has his finger on the button. We need to be careful. Yes, his advisors are likely running the country but I think ultimately he still has the last say.

Joe defended us being over run by immigrants during the debates (despite every major city being completely overwhelmed to the breaking point). He said "our economy is strong" because of immigration. While that may be true, the uncontrolled illegal variety is completely unacceptable and outrageous.

He is handing the election to the other guy by showing any favor to the mess he made as the country widely opposes wholesale outright invasion that he allowed to happen. He is basically saying that if re-elected he will continue to allow it. Thats not a selling point. 🙁

Biden's doing what you want and you're still mad?

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/mayorkas-tout-decrease-border-encounters-visit-border

Border Patrol's seven-day average of illegal migrant encounters dropped from well over 5,000 to about 2,200, according to the latest Customs and Border Protection numbers obtained by Fox News. Mayorkas said border encounters were "moving in the right direction" in an appearance on MSNBC Wednesday morning.

"You correctly note that the number of encounters at the southwest border have decreased in the three weeks that we've been implementing the president's proclamation by more than 40%," Mayorkas told host Mika Brzezinski, adding it was a "remarkable implementation" by immigration enforcement agencies.

Shitlol

ConservaClown sez “Joe has to fix the border crisis!“

Border crossings dropping sharply.

ConservaClown sez “There's an invasion and he's letting it happen!”

-I mean maybe I'm just out of the news cycle but they should have had younger surrogates go and do the morning talk show circuit regularly, Reddit AMAs, whatever and just get their names/faces out there.

Hell I have barely even seen Kamala Harris, normally the younger VP would make a perfect surrogate in these situations but they've decided to lock her in a fridge somewhere and that's left everyone with a "Kamala from the 2020 debates" impression of her, which is not good.
Pete is on shows all the time. I think Kamala does a fair number too. Just no one watches TV any more.

Like I’m not closed minded to the idea but citing LBJ is absolute fucking clown material. Going to need something a lot more credible than that.

I really have no idea.

but....

I think it's a 50% chance that Joe Biden won't run due to health or just straight up withdrawal and his replacement will be Kamala Harris. The debate debacle was the death knell of his campaign.

Given your long history with hand grenades in enclosed spaces you should probably read this article to learn what effects you are suffering from.

Exactly. Just as soon as Joe is sworn in again, it will be raining illegals again all over America and he will be cheering them in just like the last four years:

You do know Congress decides who can and can't come in.

Republicans don't want to stop it in order to run on it.

Biden's not a dictator.. he'll do what Congress says do or don't do!

That can be nice or painful or both!

Take this news with a grain of salt, one that smells like a pile of feces considering who it was. But my Twitter feed just poped up a story of Bill O
Riley claiming he has inside information that Biden will be stepping down and be replaced. While I don't listen to Bill and doubt he has any info here. It is at least a real story - according to him.

Rush Limbaugh just tweeted it will be Jill or Hunter Biden to take his place.

History shows that if Biden steps down, it would hand the election to Trump. The last time a party's Presidential nominee stepped down, or was removed (1800's - going off memory, was around 1862, but I could be way off) this late into the election, it caused the party to lose the elections. Back then there was no interent, no social media for the apposing party to capalize on such display of disfuctinality of a party and it's canidate. You think the damage is bad now from Biden's poor performance in the debate. Him stepping down would be catastrophic. Specially 4.5 months before the elections. that's not even taking into account the problems it would cause across the nation. Utah already tried to remove Biden from the Ballot.. if he stepped down, you would see many red states try to keep Biden's replacement off the Ballot. That's not taking into account that nobody else appeared to be able to beat Trump according to the polls taken months ago.

This.

It really is Biden or nothing. The best approach is to let Trump commit himself to madness.

Lets see if people really want to choose that.

It should be noted that Harris is the only person who can access the funds the campaign has raised, some 215M cash on hand. Anybody else would be starting over four months out. Another reason why dreams about Whitmer, Newsom, etc are ever further fetched than they already are.
In some polls, she actually polls worse than Biden. Slightly better than others.

Don't think America is ready yet to vote for her, but it probably makes more sense for Biden to step down now and allow her to run as the "incumbent." All other names, while some good ones, probably wouldn't work at this point.

And certainly no to celebrity/dynasty figures like Gavin or Michelle Obama.
