I still have a few tendencies, I try to hide them mostly because I hate it.

I'm OCD about you big boy. :lips: :p

haha

I get anxiety attacks in crowds that are primarily composed of apathetic ugly people. No kidding. I avoid wal-marts like that plague for that reason. I have this habit/complusion to be overly courteous to strangers in public and it fvcks with me when people are apathetic in response. I can deal with rude though, since I'm more than happy to be a comeplete dick in response. I also constantly scrutinize people in crowds while simulteneously I feel constantly scrutinized myself. It makes me very tense. In especially bad bouts I can range from wanting to run out of the place as fast as possible to wanting to punch pepole in their faces.

Cliffs: I don't like crowds

Sounds like you've got social anxiety, not OCD.

i have severe obsessive hypochondria if that counts, as a result of diagnosed generalized anxiety disorder, i have obsessive compulsive traits but am not full blown ocd per say.

i remember watching the aviator and thinking "thats not that abnormal", i dont touch doorknobs, shake hands etc... and have tissues lying all over lol.

ive recently been on SSRI's (lexxapro) and benzo's (ativan) but have a difficult time with med compliance ... i take it everyday but not at the levels they want me to. when your like me you tend to think the medication is whats making you sick.

that being said i live a pretty normal life and hold down a job, i just live life somewhat tortured lol. i have really vague physical symptoms that i try and associate with disease, ALS, MS, heart problems, etc... most likely the cause of those symptoms is chronic hyperventilation syndrome. the majority of my focus is on my pulmonary and cardiac system ... with alot of focus on nuero muscular problems. i own alot of medical equipment and am very bad about self diagnosing :)

im male and 25 but have had these problem since i was maybe 5, but very situational and mild in the beginning. like if i was camping etc.. also i used to have panic disorder, but that was pretty much confined to my junior high, early high school years.

recently since im out of college it has invaded every aspect of my life, i imagine its primarily due to the lack of something to focus on. im mentally aware of every breath i take, and at what rate my heart is beating etc.

Marijuana can also cause extreme paranoia=suicide.

well if its doing that to you, you probably should stop smoking it.

I was diagnosed with OCD about 7 or 8 years ago. I have had a hard time over the years. I have been on meds since I was siagnosed. It has gotten a little better for me the past few months, but I am still not 100%. Most recently, like a year ago I was diagnosed with Psychosis NOS. Since then they increased one of my meds and I have been getting better and better all the time. A couple weeks ago I quit taking one of my meds and I have been doing pretty good so far. While battleing OCD I also had bouts od depression. I just hope I can do well for a while. I am tired of feeling like crap all the time. Or feeling numb, which is almost as bad. I will ask that if you pray to pray for me that I get better.

Thanks,

Perry

Yeah meds help. The reason I had the psychosis is because I abruptly stopped taking my meds. SO I had withdrawels and stuff going on at the same time.

i will say the alt.support.anxiety-panic[moderated] newgroups are a good source of comfort, as alot of the disorders seem to affect similar types of people, and people will often have multiple disorders. i dont have much panic, but attend a weekly panic group and get alot out of it also. although CBT for OCD is not generally very effective, and one on one therepy has not been real effective.

unfortunately for OCD drugs tend to be the best form of treatment, i plan on upping my lexxapro thats for sure. used to be on 10mg ... then went down to 5mg ... am thinking of going back to 10 then up to 15 (what my pdoc wants)

i used to take 37.5mg of paxil, but it made me real lethargic, twitchy, muscle weakness and soreness. which only made my medical fears that much worse. (the source of my current ALS/MS worries).

in the last 6 months, ive had 2 physicals, 1 blood workup, 1 test for muscle enzymes, ekg, seen 3 urgent care doctors, my gp, an internist, 3 therepists and my pdoc. most of them many times. all of them say im fine, but my mind will not stop with the negative medical thoughts. i count my pulse, breaths, focus on my muscle soreness, test my blood sugar, blood pressure, forced vital capacity, peak flow rates, inspirational max pressure, blood oxygenation on a daily basis, often many times a day. i constantly think that my breathing sensations are the result of heart failure or diaphram weakness due to degenrative motor nueron disease. i have constant fear of being on machine assisted breathing until it gets to the point where i would have to choose machine only ventilation or death.

this from a guy with 650 peak flows, and 4700ml vital capacity's, its been real humid lately which makes it that much worse, so i recently ordered a dehumidifier :) i too like Willoughbyva find that over time it gets a bit depressing and think im getting a bit of that lately as well even though ive never had problems with depression.

while your praying for Willoughbyva throw me in there too :)

*ive also edited these messages about 50 times so far lol

don't tell me it has something to do with those ipod scams you've been falling for.

i'm not really one who studied OCD in depth (i was a pscyh minor in college), but i'm curious to know if it's a personal question to ask what people here have specifcally been OCD about (e.g. washing your hands frequently or what?)

Yes it has to do with the iPods, no they're not scams. I just wish i could be there to see the look on his face when the London Police and INTERPOL show up at his door....

i think im in the same place, i have a number of habits and things i do without even thinking about it and i cant seem to stop myself.

nothing that gets in the way of life, just things that annoy me, or people around me. or cause a hassle because ill have a pattern to things, and then it gets interrupted, and then whatever i was doing is fecked up completely.

I wouldn't say he makes having OCD seem cool, and it's entertaining enough. There have been worse depictions of mental illness. But then again, that sort of stuff doesn't really bother me either.

It's possible to have more than one diagnosis, you know. Plus the term "neurosis" isn't generally used for diagnosis anymore.

It probably depends on the person. One thing I'm a little obsessive about is things like making posts, writing e-mails, etc. Like... I deleted all the breaks bigger than one line in the quotes, and I generally read through things several times before posting/sending them. Sometimes it takes me over an hour for a 2 paragraph e-mail. Not generally, but it happens. Then sometimes I'll be lying in bed or something and think of a better way of wording something or a sentence I should've omitted or just wish I hadn't sent it at all. I also worry a lot about everyday things and often check them more than once ? things like turning lights off, locking doors, parking in a non-reserved spot, not losing my wallet, doing something I was instructed to do properly, etc. Other than that, I just like things to be very organized, consistent, and so forth. Especially stuff on my computer. I get rid of stuff I don't need regularly, files and possessions. Oh, and just recently (since starting college/moving out that is) I've become really obsessive about how I spend my time (e.g. not janking around when I have homework I could be doing instead, always staying at least a week ahead in my online classes) and spending money (I live on about $250 a month, including rent). And I'm sure there are other things. Little habits and stuff. I don't like incomplete lists, but that'll have to do.

OP: I'm likely doing some research with a professor who studies OCD and other anxiety disorders next semester, and he said if there was anything I was interested in looking at (using the available data, obviously), he'd try to work it in. I don't have anything personally, since OCD isn't exactly my greatest interest, but if there's anything you're curious about, I could give you some more information and maybe look into it.
