You think if nV releases a faster single gpu than a 7970 they won't price it higher?

It's not good for us but a high end card is going to command a premium because there ARE people willing to buy that performance.

They probably will. To be honest the greed of AMD and Nvidia are really turning me off of pc gaming. I mean I could buy a ps3 and almost a 32" LCD for what they want for a high end gpu. It also seems like enthusiasts have no limit to how much they'll spend. If this is the game then maybe I'm in the wrong game. Maybe I'm getting old?

The gpu you have is just fine no need for a new one:biggrin:

I just purchased a gtx560 non ti and in my games its a excellent performer and when gtx570/6970 performance can be had for $200 msrp that's when i plan to replace this gpu this 7970 is pretty ludacris now $600 for a gpu wow LOL.

Yeah the 8800ultra retailed most times for over that and the black pearl edition was like what $900?But its performance was undisputed till basically nvidia brought out its gtx280.

Yeah thankfully my 480 still kicks butt. :) I'll ride it out and see what happens. When the games become unplayable if the prices are still nutty I'm out. Sometimes you just have to know when to fold em.

In the end it's playing games. They are getting into real life money now. Hell I bought a Stihl chainsaw, case, felling wedge, 2 cycle oil, and bar oil for all under $500. I mean crap. This is a tool I use to maintain my property and heat my home with freaking firewood. If I wanted to I could cut down trees and sell the firewood and put food on my families plate with the saw.

Like I said maybe I'm getting old. I'm sure I'm not the first to one day wake up and say you want $550 for what?

LOL just wait till the 7990 comes in as i am thinking its gonna be $900 at least if its downclocked dual 7970s...if its two full blown 7950s it could still be $900 as in most cases isn't a dual gpu card usually more expensive then the two cards its sandwiching together if you bought them singly?

Eh, flagship prices have always been around 600$, that only changed for the last three generations because of AMD undercutting Nvidia so hard, they had to follow. Still, your GTX480 still should be fine for quite the while, because nowadays games run perfectly on 1920x1200 if you disable a single setting that lowers the framerate in half like DOF in Metro or Ubersampling in The Witcher 2.

Its performance could very well be short lived and i think for most people that's the problem people know kepler will be here soon to most likely put the 7970 and 7950 prices in check.

The prices will get cheaper as foundries ramp it up in 2 to 3 months; prices will also get cheaper if nVidia shows shows up.

PS am still surprised the GTX580 hasn't dropped in price and nobody is buying them, if nvidia drops prices, so will AMD (lets keep an close eye on nvidia prices)

Well, the thing is you have to sorta play the game if you don't want to spend a lot. For instance, I sold my GTX 580 for close to $400 back in Dec, so a 7970 is about a $150 out of pocket expense.

The duel GPU cards are actually usually a bit cheaper, at least at the MSRP price.

The 7970 x2/7990 unit will be two full 7970s just download clocked to ship at the 300 watt limit. Then you'll flip the switch and it will crank up to either stock clocks or over clocked depending on AMD & the vendor.

Not much of an OC for that extra charge either...

Well, I guess I hope the Direct Cu II isn't priced higher than this... yeesh.

That Gigabyte model has a very beefy cooler that actively cools the VRAM as well. That's really what you're paying for and yeah the Asus Direct Cu model will probably cost around the same.

greed? new state of the art, quality components take a lot of money to make and develop. it's not like these parts are subsidized like consoles and phones are

You're definitely getting old bro! But nothing wrong with that. Eventually we'll all be replaced by other shills/fanboys/focus members and the fight will continue.

Suddenly Angry Birds feels more enticing than Metro 2034 haha.

Considering what I paid for 2 12mb Voodoo 2 cards for sli, or the 6600 Ultra I bought, or the P233MMX system for $2,300 I bought way back when with a 4mb Matrox Mystique card, I think a $600 gpu is a steal for the performance it offers nowadays!

While everyone's complaining about the $550 MSRP demand keeps driving prices up. :\

Avg price is $580.
