Well, they're protesting a demographic of which Jobs was a member, but they specifically cherry-pick (to use your term) Jobs as being exempt, ostensibly for a few traits which actually apply to many people in the demographic they're protesting, but in reality they exempt him because they "like his stuff".

In other words they use a broad brush ("corporations are bad and CEOs are greedy, unfeeling profit-mongers") when it suits them and a fine brush ("Apple was so forward-thinking and innovative and Jobs contributed to humanity") when it suits them. Never mind the fact that many corporations are forward-thinking and innovative and many other CEOs make as large or larger contributions to humanitarian causes. Or never mind the fact that Jobs was, by many accounts, generally an asshole that really didn't care and that Apple made obscene margins on Chinese sweatshop materials and hoarded cash like some fantasy dragon.

It just goes to show that the principled protesters aren't really principled.

I think that is a mis-characterization of the protest. The are not protesting all business. They are primarily against the megabanks and other megacorps that have bought/stolen our govt. with their lobbyists. In this sense, I dont think apple was evil.

For a long time the left-wing commies have been using payed protestors. They just pull up to a university and ask who wants to protest and people go and protest and get free room and board. This is not a real protest.

Well by all means let us know what college they drove up to? You should break this story wide open!

I wonder what percentage of the people here that appear to know the protest and the protesters so well have met a single one of them? (my guess? Zero!)

Obviously THIS bunch of slogan chanting, face painted, bongo drumming, anti-capitalism sign waving leftist idiots is completely different from every other slogan chanting, face painted, bongo drumming, anti-capitalism sign waving leftist idiots. Somehow.

Oh werepossum, where would we be without your completely unfounded and evidence free declarations of leftist people's motivations and intentions?

Wallstreet is much more then just banks. But then again that would require the anti-capitalism commies to actually think about what they are protesting.

You get it. They are obama voters and he's behind it all with his rhetoric.

Look to communist manifesto to see how they are his tools. Except this is America. We don't take kindly to the shit he's selling.
Your blind partisanship is admirably inexhaustible.

That's been pointed out again and again, but the hate brigade boys aren't deterred by truth. It's so much easier to demonize people without it.

What's alarming to me is how the media is portraying these protesters. They are not all hippie pot smoking clowns. That's a completely exaggerated portrayal being bought up by the media.

I don't know about that.

The interviews I saw last night of the Occupy San Jose people seemed to indicate that most were stoned or drunk :D

Yet they are allowing themselves to be co-opted by the labor unions... you know... Those same labor unions that spend millions to buy political influence in D.C.?

As far as I'm concerned, any valid argument they had in protest was just negated.

The mantra we've heard has been that the protesters want money out of politics... and that is the common ground they all have.... Yet none of them are noticing or complaining about special interests in the form of unions protesting along side them.

I understand there is no formal org with these protesters, but they all go to the same web site for their communication of ideas.

if people are protesting Cinnamon Oatmeal policies they are still expressing a general anger towards those in power of Cinnamon Oatmeal policies. Those are still boots on the ground at the protest and those people can get put on to the other issues. As far as I'm concerned middle class union workers got just as fucked as everyone else in the middle class.

edit: i'm not pro union.

My main problem with the movement so far:

Seems the corporate media is in full swing discrediting the movement now that it did not disperse after a few days of them ignoring it. What is hilarious is they cannot come up with a new line then calling people 'out of work hippies" -like 50 year oil generalizations are somehow relevant to anyone but the socially retarded. Screw occupy wall st, occupy the media. Only then will something happen when the establishments liars and propagandists are smashed. If we have a willfully misinformed public, how is there to be any democracy?

Money out of politics means removing as the dominant force in elections - not unions protesting. If you don't get that difference, we are wasting time talking.

Any political movement has an important need to communicate between people who support it. It's said to be essential for a movement to have its own media.

I'm not sure 'wacky' is a strong enough word.

They're not co-opted. They're ALIGNED WITH.

Your comments are like saying that the people who wanted to defeat Hitler were 'co-opted' by being aligned with the US military. No, they weren't. They're aligned.

This movement is about 'the interests of the bottom 99%, getting screwed by the top faction of 1%'. Unions fit squarely in that group.

Because you're a moron. Apple doesn't make anything here. They shipped American manufacturing jobs to China so they could increase their profit margins. This is the exact type of thing these protesters are protesting. They had Steve Jobs taking a 1 dollar salary and try to make it look like he's doing a good thing, LOL, fool was just trying to avoid taxes. Please Apple not "evil". They're no more or less evil than any other giant corporation. They patent troll, they use bullying tactics to try and shut down competition. They are an "evil" corporation.

Your problem and the problem of these protesters is your target is to narrow, you're all cogs in this giant machine pushing exactly the right buttons they want you to. You set arbitrary lines of "good" and "evil", playing into the same game they had you going with R and Ds, and before that commies, etc etc. The first person to call me an Apple basher in this thread, will just prove my point.
