I voted for him to gut DC, yes. There wasn’t a fiscally conservative candidate to choose from. Rand was far and away the most fiscally conservative that ran, but he didn’t make it.

When it comes to government yes, we’re incompetent. American exceptionalism occurs when we get government out of the way. I have no idea how the political structure/election cycles in other countries work and maybe that’s why they are able to navigate these things better. Our government is run by politicians and politicians only care about raising money and winning, and that involves lots of pork and empty promises.

If you took literally any time to look into it Clinton’s policies were massively more fiscally responsible. You just let partisanship make up your mind.

Trump promised colossal fiscal irresponsibility and you voted for that. Because of that you have lost all ability to complain about fiscal responsibility of people you didn’t vote for.

Clinton wasn’t massively more fiscally responsible. She promised more spending and only raising taxes on 1/5 the populace. You see her as such because she was your candidate, but the reality is she was a politician out there lying to win just like Trump.

This is ridiculous nonsense. She came out and explicitly stated how she would pay for her policies. You voted for the guy who made fantasy promises and promised total fiscal irresponsibility. Seriously, you have no room to talk. You voted for absolute, massive irresponsibility. No one should listen to your concerns because it’s clear you didn’t actually care about it.

If you vote in the future for actually fiscally responsible people I will believe you but at this point you have dug a deep, deep hole.
 
The real thing the 2016 election told us was that being fiscally responsible is a bad idea. Clinton had fiscally responsible ideas and Trump invented hilarious fantasies.

She came out and explicitly said she wouldn’t add a penny to the debt which is poppycock. She promised free college but little in the way of how to pay for it. It was nothing more than trying to counter Bernie. Empty promises so she could win. A politician.

How was Trump "way worse"? Lay out the campaign promises he said which were way worse. And I’m not going to refuse to vote for a Republican or Democrat ever again, why would I?

He said he was going to cut taxes and raise military spending without changing spending otherwise. It took almost no brain power to understand that would explode the deficit. Then he did it. Any rational person knew ahead of time that Trump was a debt monster. Clinton on the other hand had plans to pay for her programs.

She didn’t lay out how she was going to pay for free college. That was tacked on to win because Bernie was sucking the air out of the room with his empty promises. She lied and said she wasn’t going to add a penny to the debt (but offered no spending cuts to achieve that). She’s a politician that wanted votes.

Capitalism has brought more out of poverty than government planning could ever dream of. A government’s job is to create the playing field, not to be a player. Even your idealic "socialist" countries are at their core capitalists, they just have high tax rates to pay for their social programs. They embrace capitalism and free markets, I’m not sure why you oppose it so.

trump promised a border wall that would be completely ineffective and claimed mexico would pay for it. instead, some portion of our yearly spending goes towards this money pit (about $1B).

trump promised he wouldn't take vacations. instead, he's taken plenty at significant taxpayer expense, both at the federal and local level.

trump promised 4% annual GDP growth. a great way to accomplish this is to start trade wars.

rescinding DACA and enact the muslim ban. while neither necessarily have a direct economic impact (i'm sure someone has tried to quantify lost tourism dollars), these actions destroy the US' world leadership and moral credibility.

TPP - the US could have solidified its economic role in southeast asia and prevented, or at least stalled, china's massive political and economic growth in the region.

so here are but a few promises of trump's - kept or not- that have had a severe negative impact on the US.

Were that to go into effect you’d find a lot more having a hard time making a "living wage". We’d undeniably have cheaper goods, and there would be US businesses that would prosper, but for those without any skills there’s no way they compete with people making $1 a day. It’s not all bad, but it’s not all good either. Something to mull over.

The GOP instrument to destroy the power of the govt is debt. Low taxes can always be raised but the debt must be honored no matter who goes hungry. That's right- rich bondholders come first, not the people. That's what makes their most recent tax scam so egregious. Borrow money from the Rich to give it back to them as tax cuts & pay interest forever. To, uhh, "grow the economy" where the benefits of growth go almost entirely to the 1%.

So let's just burn it down because bothsides & freedumb. Or something, anything that will protect and promote the welfare of the hyper-Rich above all others.
