OC problem on P5K, very itermittant blue screens (every 12 hours or more)

3.2GHZ is very good for that chip on air, maybe that's just as high as you're going to get it. You don't have to run your memory at 1:1 ratio, you should try a higher memory speed and see if that works, if not just tighten up the timings as much as possible.

Here is the stange thing... I have tested the memory at 470 fsb, and its good. But even at 344, if I put the timings at rated (4-4-4-5), it won;t even post. I have to use 5-5-5-15. The P5K (non premium) is just crap IMO, at least compared for my DS3.

Have you specifically set it to 2T command rate, and try messing with the DRAM Static Read Control and the Transaction Booster. As I pushed my fsb up past the rated speed of my memory I had to start disabling this stuff and running Transaction Booster at Relax level 0.

It sounds to me like you have a ram problem, have you tried any memory stability programs like memtest?

I have memtested 3 different set of sticks for hours... and one set was used on another computer for months, and still have problems on this one at less than rated speed. I am back to 3169, got a blue screen at 3.2 after 8 hours. At 3.1 I have gone over 24 hours, so I am close.

The wierd part, it that exactly the same speed, if I try to decrease the multiplier, and up the ram speed (way below tested speed) it won;t even post ! 8x400 won't post, but I had it stable for 8 hours at 9x355. Thats motherboard. Same ram in another motherboard was running at 475 for 6 months or more !

I have my PC stable now at 3.4GHZ (7x486), I had it at 7x500 for a while, but I really had to crank up the vcore and vdimm to get there and I didn't like the temps, and ended up unstable eventually anyway. So I'm pretty happy with 3.4GHZ for now, I think that's pretty much my limit. I'll list the setting I used:

It's looking like either the vanilla P5K is not as good of an overclocker, or your P5K is just not a good one. But hopefully these settings can help you or someone else a little bit.
