Obummer's overtures towards business falls flat

Gee, Obama wants to lay out his plan to business so business is less uncertain, the GOP filibusters everything basically trying to reduce the certainty, and then DSF blames Obama for the uncertainty.

But its no news that Business wants the freedom from regulations so they can do anything they diddly darn feels like doing, and every time we let the business do so, too much freedom backfires on everyone, especially big business itself.

But point granted, too much government regulation is bad for everyone too.

Mission impossible, find that happy medium. But GWB clearly went too far in dismantling existing regulations and business went nuts and melted down the economy. Now Obama is trying to reimpose some re-regulation, and quite predictably it becomes a political hot potato no one can rationally talk about.

I'm loving reading the comments on MSNBC. They are all anti-Obama and agree that his rhetoric and demonizing of business and profit are killing the economy.

I read it and see nothing substantive mentioned about small business loans (other than they are harder than ever to get.)

If anybody has a link with info about a proposal to increase small business loans, I'd appreciate seeing it. So far, I've seen nothing about this, and it is the solution I support and champion here.

The only thing I see saw in the article about Repubs blocking small biz legislation was this:

So far, Senate Republicans — echoing some of the same antibusiness complaints — have been able to block Obama's small-business jobs bill, even though small business is a traditional core GOP constituency. Republicans claim the bill is misguided.

IIRC, that was about an 'employment tax holiday', not expanding loans. I don't agree with an employment tax holiday either. I don't think it would help add 'new' jobs, it would just be an expensive benefit for those who were gonna hire anyway. Then there's the question of how you pay for it. More taxes?

Edit: If they do act to expand small business loans, they can use the model of the (mostly failed) ARC program. It ended being a disguised bank bail-out and far too small to really help small bisunesses even if it worked as advertised. The cap on ARC loans was only $30k.

I perused the article and missed that part. It appears that Republicans wanted a few amendments the Dems weren't willing to concede such as a spending cap and beefing up border security...it appears that nobody is lilly-white here that's for sure.

If I recall correctly, Republicans criticized the stimulus package for all the pork and not doing enough for small business who actually provide most of our job opportunities...that's why I was surprised that they would block this bill. Too bad Dems and Reps can't work together...at the end of the day, we all suffer for it.

Regardless...I don't see how this bill would do anything to reduced uncertainty for business.

Yes we all suffer, but in terms of political repussions, of the two political parties, the dems do suffer more for the failure to pass legilsation that will benefit the economy, don't they? And this fact is doubtless not lost on the GOP...

Dems had a chance to do more to help small business with the $787B porkulus package and was urged to do so by Reps. If they had done so, perhaps the economy would be in better shape right now.

We can play the blame game all day long. Bills get drafted behind closed doors, approved and shoved through most of the time...however if they require a little bipartisanship to address concerns...we can call them all unreasonable, deny amendments, and blame the GOP that the bill didn't pass. We can then go on to blame them for obstructing economic recovery for partisan reasons to boot. And this fact is doubtless not lost on the Democrats...

That's just the usual partisan tripe. I'm not looking for some long winded political hackery blaming one side or the other. Show me a concrete example of a regulation that was "dismantled" and that resulted in the economic meltdown. The closest I've ever seen to such a thing is Glass Steagall, and that was not GWB's doing.

Begin with a false premise or two. Like the idea that the economy wasn't face down in the ooze and sinking deeper when Obama took office.

Next, demand miracles, instantaneous cures for problems 30 years in the making.

Third, take a rear guard blocking position with 41 senators (count 'em- 41), invoke a record number of filibusters 2 years in a row, create uncertainty hoping for political gains in the midterms.

Fourth, Blame Obama for your own deeds. Squeal and rave loud enough so that some people will mistake volume and repetition for sincerity...

He's too weak to admit his policies are a failure and will continue down the road of wrong all the while blaming bush. No wonder why other liberals are distancing them selves from the obama. Face the damn facts, Obama was handed a shit sandwich, and now you expect him to instantly dig us out of a hole eight or more years in the making.

At best Obama can start the process of digging us out of the hole. If Obama was digging us even deeper into a hole you might have a point, but by any criteria you can name, Obama is doing far better than GWB.

But then again that is the first thing I learned about chess, once the position gets to a certain point, not even Bobby Fisher can't beat a rank amateur. Or to put it another way, once things are sufficiently FUBADed, all roads lead to ruin.

Certainly Obama is not to blame for the situation he inherited when he entered office. He IS to blame for the rhetoric and spending that have happened since then, and he most certainly IS to blame for the horrible bills that he pushed through congress.

Face it folks, the "but Bush!" line is out of gas, Obama owns this failure, he can't blame anyone else at this point.
