Oblivion graphics, I am honestly pretty damn disappointed

The unfortunate thing you have to remember is that Bethesda or any other developer doesnt care that much for the high-end, the people like us who have X1900's and 7900's and high-end CPU's. We're only a small minority, maybe 1% of the gaming market, meanwhile 99% of people have far lesser hardware, such as a 6600GT, a Radeon 9xxx, or maybe even a GeForce FX. THESE are the people that matter to Bethesda. If Bethesda made it so the graphics were amazing (well, more amazing than they already are), and people like us were loving it, it wouldnt help them one bit- because 99% of the market wouldnt be loving it, and Oblivion's sales wouldnt be looking too good either. For Bethesda, it's better if they release a quality game with at least satisfactory graphics that can be enjoyed by everybody, rather than one with OMFG amazing graphics that can only be enjoyed by a very few.

Like it would have been that much harder to include some of the better visuals and make it scalable. They had 4 freaking years to work on it


And further, why the f8KC did they post false screenies then if they didnt intend to make it look like or almost like that?

Unless the 360 version is much better than the PC version (which I highly doubt it is) then the screenshots arent false at all..........

Heh I'm a big team dm fan but it's also fun to sit back with a few friends and play a coop game as well. I have serious doubts about a coop mod since it would require adding in networking code which seems a major undertaking. Then again there's a lot of ingenius people out there so here's hoping someone does it.

A co-op mod (probably more like a hack) did come out for morrowind, but from what I read it was pretty slim on features and fairly clunky.

AFAIK 360 version. And that's exactly what it looks like, because I've played it on my 360. I'm assuming Xbox 360 = PC version @ Maximum settings, 1280x720.

BTW, the 360 can't even do Anisotropic Filtering!!!!! Every game that has come out is a blurry mess! Also, most of the games don't even have V-Sync turned on so you're forced to look at mass amounts of tearing!!!!!!

The 360 version may look better, but that's only because you're siting a lot further away from the screen and the game was programmed to look the best at 1280x720!

this is exactly why it was toned down..
its easier to write a spectacular game for a set hardware (360) vs the millions of PC combos that may or may not run it..
they chose to make it mainstream and sell more copies..
they care less about us ubergeeks as you said we are the minority..
and most of us Uber geeks already have a 360 and a HDTV as well as our PC..
so we were covered..

so your telling me that if I send my PC output to my 42inch philips LCD HDTV in 720P with the game running at 1280x720 all settings max and V-sync turned on...It will look better than the x360?

Oh yeah, and im holding off on my purchase of Oblivion now to see if they fix the visual quality issue...or if the driver above actually does help. If not, screw them for making the PC version suck compared to the XBOX.

Dont think the X360 version is all sunshine either. I dont know if its just my system, but framerate in X360 Oblivion is almost as bad as in X360 Quake IV- it's all over the place, most of the time its good, but you get some real slow parts every once in a while.

It's near impossible to do a good comparison from memory, but after playing the 360 version and looking at the PC screenshots on the first page, they dont look much different, if at all.

I have both versions and have both connected to my PC monitor (dual inputs) ill do direct comparisons alittle later and take some shots (I played 360's version for 6 hours lastnight and it was awesome), for now here's a couple shots I took from 360's version off my HDTV although they didnt come out the way I hoped ,Ill try to get better shots off my PC monitor when doing the comparisons:

On the xbox360 version the AF is only 4x. It is pretty noticable if you are standing still but not as much when you are running.

my neighbors xbox360 version looks good on his widescreen plasma tv LoL...but he said he was pissed off about the image decay that a lack of AF displays.

After mods and tweaked .ini files... I am sure the PC will be a clear victor...and even by some act of satan...that it doesnt look graphically better
(which i have to dig deep to even fathom...) The user created Modz...all the plug ins ect ect...pc > xbox360 for longevity of gameplay..and enjoyment overall.

Not that I am biased to the PC just because I am on a PC forum! >.> ._.

But consider morrowind for xbox.....pc version crashed like nobodies buisness constantly....it ran like ****** on everything...but after all this time...look at the mods available for it...tell me which one you would rather own today?

I know Bethesda toned down the game, but this was over a year ago, so anything at last years E3 or after was running on the current graphics we see now.

I've only played it at a low resolution at medium settings, and it doesnt look as good as it should in motion. It's still a great looking game, so I dont see what this disappointment is about.

Actually, those new beta drivers seem to have fixed some issues for me, along with those texture tweaks.. it does look a lot better ... although it runs something awful in the forest areas... but I'm not as displeased as I was, thankfully
