Obamacare is GREAT! Here's Why -
Already in effect:
- Obamacare allows the Food and Drug Administration to approve more generic drugs (making for more competition in the market to drive down prices).
- don't care
- Obamacare increases the rebates on drugs people get through Medicare (so drugs cost less)
-don't care
- Obamacare establishes a non-profit group, that the government doesn't directly control, to study different kinds of treatments to see what works better and is the best use of money.
- where does the money come from to bankroll this group?
- Obamacare makes chain restaurants like McDonalds display how many calories are in all of their foods, so people can have an easier time making choices to eat healthy.
why don't they just tell us cigarettes are bad for us? you think this will do anything? that info is already available.
- Obamacare makes a "high-risk pool" for people with pre-existing conditions. Basically, this is a way to slowly ease into getting rid of "pre-existing conditions" altogether. For now, people who already have health issues that would be considered "pre-existing conditions" can still get insurance, but at different rates than people without them.
will lead to increased costs for everyone
- Obamacare renews some old policies, and calls for the appointment of various positions.
great, more government
- Obamacare creates a new 10% tax on indoor tanning booths.
great, another tax...
- Obamacare says that health insurance companies can no longer tell customers that they won't get any more coverage because they have hit a "lifetime limit". Basically, if someone has paid for life insurance, that company can't tell that person that he's used that insurance too much throughout his life so they won't cover him any more. They can't do this for lifetime spending, and they're limited in how much they can do this for yearly spending.
so force me to pay for coverage I may not want or need. not everyone needs a no limit coverage plan. this contributed to my rates increasing 36% over 18 months
- Kids can continue to be covered by their parents' health insurance until they're 26.
leads to increased rates... again, mine increase 36% in 18 months
- No more "pre-existing conditions" for kids under the age of 19.
all these things must be free? oh, no, people like me get to pay for them
- Insurers have less ability to change the amount customers have to pay for their plans.
complete BS. unless sky high rates and not being able to reduce them are what you mean. when all this went into affect, my rates jumped substantially
- People in a "Medicare Gap" get a rebate to make up for the extra money they would otherwise have to spend.
who pays for this?
- Insurers can't just drop customers once they get sick.
another reason rates increase
- Insurers have to tell customers what they're spending money on. (Instead of just "administrative fee", they have to be more specific).
so what? this will do nothing meaningful in terms of reducing costs
- Insurers need to have an appeals process for when they turn down a claim, so customers have some manner of recourse other than a lawsuit when they're turned down.
so what.... it will do nothing meaningful.. simply make people jump through one more hoop
- New ways to stop fraud are created.
specific examples? will the expected savings offset the increase regulation costs?
- Medicare extends to smaller hospitals.
increased medicare costs
- Medicare patients with chronic illnesses must be monitored more thoroughly.
.... at an increase in cost
- Reduces the costs for some companies that handle benefits for the elderly.
how?
- A new website is made to give people insurance and health information.
and this will do what exactly? help reduce my rates?
- A credit program is made that will make it easier for business to invest in new ways to treat illness.
honestly this is 'needed'?
- A limit is placed on just how much of a percentage of the money an insurer makes can be profit, to make sure they're not price-gouging customers.
exactly what we need govt limiting private companies profits. what happens when the govt tells you how much money you can make?
.
.
oh, and I got a nice note from my insurance company saying they met the criteria... and then my rates when up
- A limit is placed on what type of insurance accounts can be used to pay for over-the-counter drugs without a prescription. Basically, your insurer isn't paying for the Aspirin you bought for that hangover.
doesn't matter... most people won't likely be able to afford a plan with drug coverage so anything they buy will be out of pocket.
- Employers need to list the benefits they provided to employees on their tax forms.
won't do anything but piss people off when they find out that they are going to be taxed on their 15k health coverage that the employer pays
.
the rest is just complete BS. all I see is an increased number of taxes and a multitude of restrictions that will only increase healthcare premiums.
sure I get a no cap policy and some increased "no copay" coverage, but you really think that doesn't just come back to me in increased premiums? News, flash, it already has. I pay more now for my healthcare than I do on my mortgage and property taxes combined... and I'm not sick, haven't been sick. I have no eye, dental, or drug coverage under my plan. for the most part it is just major medical. I now pay 1/3 of my gross income on healthcare... thanks obamacare!
obamacare is going to sink the middle class. it is going to make the job market worse and do nothing but drive up costs. the govt should have taken the money and just payed those "uninsurable" peoples health care costs and called it a day.... instead they go for this equality BS and throw the baby out with the bath water.
our system wasn't perfect, but what we are facing now, is so much worse.
For me, all they needed to do was open up the markets to more insurance companies competing for my business. instead I have 3 companies I can buy from, all are the same price when factoring in the network of coverage... all the same price, I wonder how that can be???
And nowhere in your post did I see anything discussing the number of waivers the govt has already given out. Nor do I see anything talking about the increased IRS agents related to this act.
Obamacare can only be trumped by cap and trade as the worst policy to be passed in this country and I don't think cap and trade is too far off
