No, the World won't end, but Education of Students will be affected. Something that can have negative consequences whose affects will reverberate for Decades.
unfortunately, hiring 1-1 teachers for every single student in the US isn't practical.

concessions have to be made to account for budgets, even within the realm of education.

There comes a point where you draw a line in the sand. The Current situation is one of those times, since it's less about Fiscal Discipline and all about Economic factors that have temporarily affected Revenues. Some States might very well have some room for Cuts, but it is very unlikely that most States have the ability to do so without causing Damage that's best avoided.

Fail, sorry. This is not meant to Fix "Bankruptcy"(which is a false statement to begin with). It is meant to maintain essential Services during an Economic Downturn. I realize that doesn't invoke the necessary Outrage talking point, but it is the truth of the matter.

It's also true that governments fix problems by spending more money to do the same things badly, then want to fix it by spending more money rather than fixing the inherent problems with their systems.

"Let's expand Medicaid!"

Medicaid is an expensive inefficient money pit. So let's add more people without fixing that.

Same old song.

I suspect that's where most of the Fat is. Assuming there is Fat. I'm not sure how this got all focused on Education though, only a portion(likely fairly small) will be spent on Education.

Perhaps, but it isn't necessarily ensuring their ability to maintain Essential Services either.

According to Democrats and other similar mental midgets, everything is essential. This is why you see states like California and New York threaten to shut down fire and police departments rather than actual non-essential services.

In NY they have started stealing (and that's the proper word) from our taxes which are dedicated by law to education to pay for -wait for it- increased medicaid spending.

They've removed any property tax relief ( which is at THE highest rate in the nation), want to bump it up some more, and not spend it on schools, administration OR teachers. It's earmarked for education, but they are ignoring that. Of course a lot of people are upset, but guess who they have to appeal to? The ones who are taking the money to begin with.

$50 billion wouldn't fix NY's problems, much less a bunch of other states.

You're from Canada. Nobody gives a shit what you think.

Well it's true that his opinion about NY is as valid as is mine of Canada, which wouldn't be. That's because I haven't a clue as how bad or good his government is, and he hasn't one about ours.

Trying to help local governments keep their police, firefighters, and teachers is screwing America... got it...

Because only firefighters, teachers, and police are the one areas government can cut......got it....

The reason those sectors are mentioned so often is that government knows it can extort more money out of the taxpayer rather than saying they are going to cut XYZ other services. The politician has found a way to have it both ways.

You don't know how much some of these teachers with tenure are making. They're making a butload! With a pension! Plus they can't be fired!

I have a suggestion.

Why don't you start a "Bitch here about what other people are earning" thread. That way you can complain about everyone else and what they make. It would run for 3 full pages and that's before anyone else posted.

One of the largests costs other than buildings is the price of textbooks. I think textbooks is one of the biggest rip-offs on the face of the earth.

Just say No to spending. Retire people early and make new hires at lower rates and almost no benefits.

I imagine that schools probably don't pay the same price as students in a college campus bookstore and, at least when I was in grammar school, the schools owned the books and reused them from year to year for different classes.

we had to buy our own books in high school, but I went to a private school... I'm pretty sure that my sister didn't have to in public school.
