This - it's a huge policy issue though. Allowing illegals to become citizens will be costly also, as vast majority of them are unskilled/low income and disproportionately draw on social services. On the other hand, I don't think it's realistic to deport 20M people either.


Allowing a huge contingent of uneducated poor people into the country while expelling Grad school grads that can't get an H1B doesn't sound like a smart policy either.

You don't need to deport them. Deprive them of the right to earn wages (by fines on people who pay them) and of the right to use social services (national ID) and they will leave.

The result is really the same. Citizens' wages are driven lower. It's not like post-doc positions pay well. The only problem with low-wage illegals is there are more of them.

If you are "undocumented" that would mean you are in the country illegally making you a criminal not a "law abiding" immmigrant so you will be deported anyways right?

whats the big deal? seems like a announcement of nothing new.

I thought this was P&N hyperbole until I heard on the news that this is basically true. Pretty big law not to enforce. Why do we even pretend to have limits on immigration?

Well, you see the flaw in his remark is none of the undocumented immigrants are law-abiding, they all broke the law to get here in the first place, or overstayed their visa, which is also breaking the law, so that means they should be deported if they are apprehended by the law.

Not only that but most of these undocumented immigrants used forged documents as forms of identification, often stealing someones social security number. In this case not only did they enter the country illegally, but are using forged documents, and stealing someones identity.

Not as much as corporations who use illegal are paying them not to, and you are likely enjoying the economic benefits of their labor and not complaining about that.

As I've said before, the best solution to illegal immigration is to have Mexico offer decent employment - not the free-trade farm destroying, drug-exporting mess it is.

Yes, they are.

Every population arrived at some point, with the human race evolving.

'Native' doesn't mean 'hear for 4 billion years since the earth formed'. It means 'the original inhabitants' or at least 'the group who was there before newer groups'.

Some groups are clearly 'native' groups who are the long-standing inhabitants. Others are more debatable - newer groups who have been there for a long time.
