i love how they call it undocumented and law-abiding, instead of illegal, since you know... the fact that they are here illegally makes them not law-abiding.

The White House said Thursday it will let undocumented, law-abiding immigrants facing deportation stay in the U.S. and apply for work permits.
The policy shift focuses federal resources on booting out convicted criminals and others who pose a public safety or national security threat, while sparing undocumented students and other low-priority immigrant offenders.
"It's a good idea," said Francisco Pinto, a 37-year-old financial adviser from Flatbush. "The country is built upon immigrants. They stimulate the economy."
"If somebody doesn't have a criminal record, why do they have to deport them?" asked Marie Dennery, a 50-year-old Haitian immigrant and U.S. citizen from Canarsie.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said the government will conduct a case-by-case review of some 300,000 illegal immigrants in deportation proceedings to determine who should stay and who should go.
Low-priority cases were "clogging immigration court dockets and diverting enforcement resources away from individuals who pose a threat," Napolitano said in a letter to senators.
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), an ardent supporter of immigration overhaul, said he was confident the new policy would halt the deportation of young illegal immigrants who go to college.
Those young people would be granted a chance at legal status under a proposed bill known as the Dream Act.
"These students are the future doctors, lawyers, teachers and, maybe, senators, who will make America stronger," Durbin said.
Added Rep. Jose Serrano (D-Bronx): "It's an important, wonderful first step. We're not saying that certain people should not be deported, but you can't do it in a blanket way."
Immigrant groups were far less effusive.
"It remains to be seen whether this change will provide actual relief for youth and our families," The New York State Youth Leadership Council said.
However, Faith Champy, a 33-year-old social worker from Queens, added, "Most immigrants come here for a better life. If they're working and doing what they're supposed to do, why should they get deported?"
