he's stupid to end the program.

the pilot having a gun improves the chance that those onboard will survive if the bad guy uses $20 worth of explosive or corrosive to get through your $200 door...

and nothing personal, but you are not too bright yourself if you think that any mod to a jumbo jet costs 'about $200'...

Why? Pilots are just smart enough to land a plane. Some don't and land them poorly. Now you want joe or jane pilot AKA captain to carry a gun that they probably don't have any training on.

Sorry to burst your bubble but this is a good thing. I'd rather have the computer land the plane and keep the guns to trained secret service.

Thanks, but no thanks.

And before you get your panties all wadded up in a knot... Some of these pilots are Arab descent ... hey look nothing on them but say they got an itch ... now your just arming someone that doesn't have any business having a gun on a jet airliner.

So they don't get training?

Your joking right? Look at the last plane that went down... yeah you know the one that called everyone and a few people on the ground...

They are lucky to get training on the plane they are flying. Now you want us to think they are getting training on guns too. Get real...

Not really; gun-owners weren't allowed to carry their guns on planes before Obama was elected either.

if pilots aren't smart/safe/reliable enough to carry guns, who is?

I agree. We trust them enough to fly the plane, why is it we don't trust them enough to carry a gun?

Oh yeah, guns are "teh evil".

Because they're trained to fly a plane and that is what they're skilled at (otherwise, they wouldn't apply for the job). Not everyone is equipped to handle a gun. That's like saying a doctor should be trusted with a gun since we trust them with your care.

LOL, most of the people flying the "big iron" are ex-jet jockeys. I think they know a thing or two about shooting.

And most of those pilots have been with airlines for decades. What you don't use, you lose. Besides, how many times do you think a fighter pilot uses the pistol they gave him?

Go ahead and spin your straw into gold, I don't care what ridiculous spin you want to try and put on this. I would trust a major airline pilot having a gun in the cockpit. It makes perfect sense to me.

If it makes so much sense why do you think it wasn't done much earlier? After all, hijackings have been around for decades.

That's like asking why they didn't fix that dangerous intersection until they had several fatal accidents at it.

Think about this. Unarmed person gets on plane and it takes off. He gets into the cockpit and gets gun and then takes over plane. He then heads it toward a building as he just shots the pilot and anybody that gets in his way. Will your last thoughts be "at least the pilot had a gun for this unarmed person to a hold of..."

Didn't mythbusters prove that explosive decompression is impossible with a handgun?
How is the unarmed person getting the gun from the pilot?

Sorry, the scenarios for not having a gun are more far fetched then having one. In the cases of not having one, gross negligence must take place... pilot showing off his hand gun (to who? pretty sure the staff know about the weapons and don't need to see it), and not securing the firearm to allow a passenger to confiscate it unknowingly. The same arguments can be said about what's stopping the pilot from getting hammered and crashing the plane, what's stopping the pilot from saying 'screw it' and getting all suicidal and taking the plane with him?

I say we can't trust the pilots, end all flights and stay home!

If the bullet blows out a window, that's a problem.

Bad example since many pilots have been caught drunk and I have read several stories about small planes crashing from drunk pilots. Let alone 1 pilot already was playing with his gun and it went off during flight.

So just how many pilots have gone off half cocked and shot something? My guess it's less than the number of planes that crashed on 9/11

Well lets see. We have been flying over 100years and only allowed guns for less then 10. Want to guess which one, flights into buildings by terriost vs guns going off, average more in that time?

See how that works. Any other bad plays you got left?

Can anyone here even read anymore?

"Obama took $2 million of the FFDO's $25 million budget and reallocated it. This would mean that the FFDO has been reduced to its original FY 2003 operating budget of only $23 million instead of getting the $50 million they wanted.

not great, but not the super secret killing of the whole program that this is being made out to be."

Unlike the title of this completely IDIOTIC thread - guns are not being taken out of the hands of pilots, the linked article is a pro-gun editorial, and it really must be a slow news day for garbage like this to even merit a post.

Only to point out that guns weren't prohibited on planes until 1987 and that mail carriers were required to have them.

LOL, you're the one with your panties in a knot. That pilot of Arab descent you're so worried about is already flying the plane. He doesn't need a gun to fly it into the the gound/building/whatever.

Guns have been carried in planes for decades with few incidents. Now show us your secret data that shows that trained pilots are inferior to those who came before them?

I must have misread your post I thought you said

Actually I'm pretty dumb. In fact the only people dumber than me are people who get their butts handed to for crediting Obama with something he isn't doing, like oh, getting rid of armed pilots, then telling others to shut up and deal with it.

I fully endorse allowing pilots the option of carrying pistols with those "plane-safe" bullets if they want to and are behind a door that's always locked, to prevent them from being immediately overpowered without any warning. It's common sense, at the very least, to allow that. Make them take a course or whatever.

dude just stop posting. its obvious you have no rational thought and have NO knowledge what so ever about the training a airline pilot has.

Oh snap, I forgot the other dumber ones.

Those who would make statements about the pilots not having training.

From the TSA:

Federal Flight Deck Officers are trained by the Federal Air Marshal Service on the use of firearms, use of force, legal issues, defensive tactics, the psychology of survival and program standard operating procedures.

Sounds like Obama is paving the way for more terrorist hijack attacks, but I bet this time they will be from Africa so we have to invade and liberate those nations.

FAIL.

Obama isn't ending the program. A small part of the funds are being reallocated. Obama isn't shaking anything up which is as it should be. We just love tempests in teapots.

Nope here is conspiracy angle I have learned about ;

If you watch that "The Obama Deception" documentary in this thread it hints at Obamas desire to militarily go in to Africa;

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2286100&enterthread=y

Now all of a sudden we have;

Missing Somali-Americans

About 20 young men have disappeared so far, and they are believed to have traveled to Somalia to join a terrorist group.

Tie this in with Obama?s weakening of our Homeland security, like Obama's decision to require that CIA interrogators abide by the Army Field Manuel, Obama's decision to close so-called CIA black sites thus limiting our intelligence gathering ability and of course now taking pilot?s guns.

One could come to the conclusion that Obama is planning 9/11 part two using terrorists from Africa this time in order to have an excuse invade African Nations and liberate them and secure their resources for the US.

Fuck obama in every direction possible. he is such a fucking moron.

He wants to take away the only protection a plane will have against hijackers...

door really doesnt count, because the hijackers can shoot the people dead and they will just kill themselves in the end. all they save is a couple million in a plane and have 50-200 killed (probably 200 because they want to kill more people) at the cost of a freakin gun.

next thing we will hear. obama will let the cockpit doors stay wide open the entire flight, or he will say the special doors are costing too much money.

thats like getting a race car that goes 250+ but not installing anything for protection, or wearing any because it costs extra
