This thread fucking sucks:

"This isn't the first time a president has been called to serve on a jury. Former President George W. Bush in 2006 got a jury summons from McLennan County, Texas, where his ranch is located, but he was let off the hook, according to the Christian Science Monitor.

The Christian Science Monitor reported in 2006 that "in fact, no modern court has had a sitting president on a jury. Ronald Reagan came the closest when he was summoned in the 1980s by Santa Barbara County, Calif. He was granted a deferment until he was out of office. Former President Bill Clinton was willing to serve on a case involving a gang-related shooting when he was called in 2003, but the judge dismissed him."

In 1996, for example, Gonzales, as Bush's general counsel, managed to get the then-Texas governor excused from jury duty, thus saving Bush from having to disclose a 1976 arrest for drunk driving.

I dont think any president ever served on a jury while in office. He is the commander-in-chief. Let the judge serve on the jury. This is a bit of a joke.

This. And slap the idiot that mailed out the notice.

And to the OP - yeah, it's a funny article.

I am glad he (and other politicians) believe they are entitled to special treatment.

You are so full of shit. Politicans get off all the time, since they are away from their home. Just like students in college get off when they are out-of-state at school.

I didn't hear you complaining about Bush when he did it.

Link

Grow up.

What does this have to do with anything??? Just as i thought...your using this forum to slam Bush...as much as I despise Bush I dispise idiots like you more...

Oh, you're killing me with your "logic".

Lord forbid someoene remind the masses of what a bunch of lying assholes the Neocons are/were. The very same Neocons trying to bash Obama for nothing, but gave Bush a free ride on just about evey fucking lowlife stunt he ever pulled.

If you don't like what I type then put me on your ignore list because that's what it's there for. Frankly I could give a shit what you think. Despise away shit for brains.

I see.

Care to elaborate your position?

Obama thinks he is above the law and doesn't have to show up to jury duty.

Now, if you had a presentation at work and were "unable to make it" do you think the courts would give you a pass? Nope.

That is the definition of special treatment only afforded to the ruling class.

You bitch and bitch about how much it costs to fly his damn plane, and how much secret service costs, and how much we paid so he could take his wife out to dinner, or how much we paid so he could go to hawaii to visit family for christmas...

But, for some reason, you would be OK with him doing all of that to waste his time (and all of our time) sitting on a fucking jury for misdemeanors / minor felonies?

Give me a fucking break.

What's amusing is that if he served on jury duty, the very same people would be whining that there's a Constitutional separation of power & that he's not allowed to be the head of the legislative branch AND be a part of the judicial branch.

Taking his wife out for a night in NY is completely different than fulfilling his civic duty. After all, OBAMA is the one who gets up on his soap box and preaches about civic duty.

The only thing that's "obvious" here is that you're an arrogant idiot. I'll repeat it since you're so slow on the uptake. If you don't like my posts then put me on the ignore list. If you're not bright enough to find that it's in the user cp. You can get help in the technical forum.

Have a nice day. 😛

What higher civic duty is there than serving as President?

For security, it is impossible for a president to serve. And note... I doubt someone serving/fighting in the war would be called and flown home to the states to serve on Jury duty. It just doesnt happen that way.
This is a stupid thread. Someone kill it!!!

How so? The President is still a citizen of the state he is from, and thusly must follow the same laws, or can a President go out and kill someone because he's somehow not accountable to the laws you and I are?

I've read through the laws in Texas in regards to getting out of jury duty because I hate doing it, and there are no regulations in it that say being the President absolve you of your CIVIC DUTY.

He is just a man, just like any other politician is just a man or woman. They are no more important as an individual, only in the JOB they hold.
Think of it this way. It;s like saying the CEO of Exxon shouldn't have to serve jury duty because he makes an ass load of cash and he has more important things to do for him and his stock holders.

as president he should. it comes with the job.

Duh

Notice a word you used in that sentance. A Job. He took a JOB. As much as you'd like to believe, he isn't that chosen one, he isn't the Messiah or the second coming of Christ. He's an American Citizen (though some argue that point 😉 ). He is no better than any other citizen of this nation. To have the arrogance to think so is laughable.

Do they call active Military people to come back for jury duty? No. The President is already serving the country full-time, he shouldn't have to sit in a jury until his term is up.

It might be a good idea to drop this one because even an idiot understands that being President of the US is a bit different than "having a presentation at work".

Of course if you want to be one, I'll get out of your way.

Idiots apparently don't understand quite as much as you think.
