Good enough reason?

We'll have troops in the middle east for a long time regardless of this outcome, but the number will decrease. It already has been. Casualties since the surge are drastically shrinking because the mission is being accomplished.

Do you really know so little about the situation that you are in?

What if al Sadr backs out of his agreement?

You seem to give all the credit to the surge without any acknowledgment of the fact that it was one component in a wide ranging machine that brought the violence down to levels that seem acceptable in that area.

If al Sadr goes back to feeling like his faction of people are being unrepresented by the new government, all hell is going to break loose again and that reduction in troops that you seem to want to believe is permanent, will very quickly become an addition of troops even when/if Obama is president.
