This is why I'll probably never be a public servant again. Your pay gets frozen which means your salary goes down every year due to inflation, and then when you get a 0.5% raise the conservatives get angry. I'd rather work in a field where I make twice as much, get raises for no reason, and get free food, and the general public can't complain because the price of oil is whatever the market says it is.

Just FYI- there are no "Obamacare tax profits". The taxes incorporated into the ACA are used to offset some of the costs of running the program and the tax credits for premiums. All told the CBO estimates the ACA will cost ~$1.5 trillion over ten years, even accounting for the tax revenue offsets.

I'm on my phone right now so I'll have to revisit later but that is most assuredly not correct. I've quoted the figures in other ACA threads, especially after the CBO revised their budget projections after the Supreme Court decision, but the basic numbers were $2.5 trillion in program costs and tax credits over 10 years against $1-1.5 trillion in offsetting tax revenue. The Supreme Court decision worsened the forecast slightly as the tax credits were seen to be more expensive than the now-optional Medicaid expansion.

Edited: You might be thinking of the estimated $180 billion cost to repeal that was discussed earlier this year. That number was misleading because it only accounted for immediate tax revenue lost and spending decreases. It did not account for the fact that most of the spending saving to offset the cost of repeal didn't occur until 2014 and thus were ignored. The true "cost of repeal" was likely closer to -$1.5 trillion over ten years since the tax credits wouldn't have to be paid.

The .5% will not do much for those in the Fed Gov as the new retirment system goes into affect in 2013. It increases the retirment payment by another 2.5% or so.

Let alone the the 2% payroll and whole cliff deal. So in the end .5% is better than the last 3 years 0% but nothing to jump up about in the grand deal.
