Obama on Leno tonight

OCGuy

Obama is appearing on Jay Leno tonight, which will I think will be good for all Americans to watch.

Jay has been critical of the bailouts, so I think it could be interesting. I really hope it is a serious discussion, but a tad lighter than a 20/20 interview.

Leno seems like a 'closet Republican' to me - when he had John Kerry on as a guest, he put him right after 'Triumph the comic insult dog', and had the dog interact with Kerry in a way that seemed degrading and tasteless. On the other hand, Leno provided a big platform for Arnold to run for governor - it's where his candidacy was announced.

But I think he'll be more cautious given Obama is the President, not a candidate.

Edit: every once in a while, I like to let facts influence my opinions, so I did a little research to see if my impression of Leno's 'closet' politics was correct.

In part, because the anecdotes were not that conclusive, and it might be a wrong impression.

I quickly found that he at least denies it, and has some ecidence to support the point. An LA columnist had the same impression I did, and had written several columns attacking Leno for his right-wing bias - and Leno contacted the writer and did an interview where he claimed to be a liberal.

Link if anyone has an interest in the interview on his political orientation.

So, I'll take him at his word, but I still am offended by the Kerry treatment, even if it was just bad taste rather than an intentional attack.

Is this a bad joke? Leno is the king of softball. He'll let Obama say whatever he wants.

I cant say you are wrong on this one. However, I am hoping that Leno sees this as his last hurrah and leaves us something to remember him by. Not by attacking Obama, but by challenging him.

Well apparently he said he bowls like a retard. Literally.

Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute taping, the president talked about how he's gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley, even bowling a 129.

"That's very good, Mr. President," Leno said sarcastically.

It's "like the Special Olympics or something," the president said.

Woops

Making fun of the special olympics.... classy guy we have in the oval office!

President Obama sat down with Jay Leno on Thursday for a late-night TV interview that spanned a range of topics -- from the economic crisis to the presidential dog -- and even, at one point, featured the president joking that his bowling ability was suitable for the Special Olympics.

EDIT: above poster beat me to it!

I've never made or laughed at a joke about the Special Olympics and especially never when I've been the POTUS. :|

hjahahhah oh man thats not good

From Politico: After President Barack Obama said on the Jay Leno show that his bad bowling looked "like the Special Olympics or something," the White House quickly issues a statement: "The President made an offhand remark making fun of his own bowling that was in no way intended to disparage the Special Olympics. He thinks that the Special Olympics are a wonderful program that gives an opportunity to shine to people with disabilities from around the world," spokesman Bill Burton said.

he seems to be doing fairly well, i don't see anything particularly populist. For that matter he hasn't really seeme to deflect or dodge any questions or criticism.
