I'm disappointed. Obama blah blah blah resorted to populist rhetoric instead.

What did you expect?
Overall I enjoyed what he had to say. He acted like the salt of the earth and made plenty of sensible statements. It's just a shame that he didn't set the record straight on the AIG "bonuses."

And the Special Olympics thing was uncomfortable. You could even see Jay pause for a second and think 'Did he just say that?'

Well, we have had celebrities act like politicians...I guess it was only a matter of time before we had a President act like a celebrity.

Are you die hard conservatives seriously gonna sit there and nitpick every little thing like this for the next 8 years? Better grab a few cases of popcorn, its gonna be fun watching you flip your lids every month or so, you bunch of whiney losers.

Anything that pisses you all off like this is a good thing for America. I love it!!!

Yeah, softball all the way. Nothing I hadn't heard of before. Of course, as a leader he's a monumental improvement, so as a POTUS he's doing predictably well, especially given the circumstances. He certainly doesn't have all the answers, but he is supposed to have the judgment to hire the right people and make the tough calls based on evidence given to him.

Yeah, he is still in campaign mode. I'd be more excited if he went on with John Stewart or something...

That's ok, I am having as much fun watching the Obamabots dismiss every criticism of their chosen leader, yet the common defense for Obama is "get over it you whiney losers."

I had high hopes for Obama...while politically I don't agree with him on everything, I at least respected his message of hope and change...seems to me he is still on the campaign trail.

Yes it is good for America...it is healthy for the minority party to get engaged in the political process, question our leadership and keep the cheerleaders in check.

By offering no ideas of their own and just being obstructionists?

I need to start making a list of these...seems I am responding to the same talking point in every thread.

This thread is about the Leno appearance...the argument on the table is that this appearance seems to be Obama falling back on what he does best, which is campaign and directly engage people...I would offer that he is not going to be able to talk his away out of this economic crisis any more than Congress can spend us out of it.

Now if someone wants to counter with something mature and intelligent, I am game.

I wonder how long it is before he goes back to his crack days like Lindsey Lohan.

He's still campaigning.

You nailed it. That's not what every president does and should do every day. You got him.

As I understand it, he was first sitting president to do a spot like this.

Ever heard of Nixon on Laugh in? There have been many others too, I am sure.

His answer to it was simple - he wanted to reach a large portion of hte American public that might not normally tune in and listen to Politics.

Nothing wrong with that. I personally think Bush should have done this more. Bush is a personal and likeable guy. It might have helped us out to see him being more human and laid back, as opposed to the official podium prezzy announcements.

He seemed to dodge Leno's question about Congress being able to tax at will just because they don't like what a company (*cough* AIG *cough*) does ... despite the obvious controversy over constitutional ex post facto.

When the question is about congress taxing a corporation 90% at will and the answer is it's better for America if the rich people are taxed a little more to take care of healthcare and such... that's a dodge.

Edit: Fixed wording

SITTING president. Nixon was running for office. As I read Obama's the first sitting pres to appear on a late night comedy show like Leno, Letterman, Carson, SNL, etc.

Okeedokee... Its still a good thing for the reason Obama described... "wanted to reach a large portion of the American public that might not normally tune in and listen to Politics"
