Obama now wants to ban fishing? BY EXECUTIVE ORDER!?

ESPN: Culled Out

snippets:

The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters.

"When the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) completed their successful campaign to convince the Ontario government to end one of the best scientifically managed big game hunts in North America (spring bear), the results of their agenda had severe economic impacts on small family businesses and the tourism economy of communities across northern and central Ontario," said Phil Morlock, director of environmental affairs for Shimano.

"Now we see NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and the administration planning the future of recreational fishing access in America based on a similar agenda of these same groups and other Big Green anti-use organizations, through an Executive Order by the [US] President."

Led by NOAA's Jane Lubchenco, the task force has shown no overt dislike of recreational angling, but its indifference to the economic, social and biological value of the sport has been deafening.

Additionally, Lubchenco and others in the administration have close ties to environmental groups who would like nothing better than to ban recreational angling. And evidence suggests that these organizations have been the engine behind the task force since before Obama issued a memo creating it last June.

As ESPN previously reported, WWF, Greenpeace, Defenders of Wildlife, Pew Environment Group and others produced a document entitled "Transition Green" shortly after Obama was elected in 2008. What has happened since suggests that the task force has been in lockstep with that position paper.

Additionally, some of these same organizations have revealed their anti-fishing bias by playing fast and loose with "facts," in attempts to ban tackle containing lead in the United States and Canada. That same tunnel vision, in which recreational angling and commercial fishing are indiscriminately lumped together as harmful to the resource, has persisted with the task force, despite protests by the angling industry.

As more evidence of collusion, the green groups began clamoring for an Executive Order to implement the task force's recommendations even before the public comment period ended in February.

"With what's being created, the same principles could apply inland as apply to the oceans," he said. "Under the guise of 'marine spatial planning' entire watersheds could be shut down, even 2,000 miles up a river drainage from the ocean.

"Every angler needs to be aware because if it's not happening in your backyard today or tomorrow, it will be eventually.

He promised he wanted to fundamentally change the country, I believe him.

I almost hope he does something as lunatic as this. Then he will have completed a new record of pissing off every single person in the country within 2 years.

This. This man ran promising that we were not going to be able to eat whatever we want and drive whatever we want and keep our homes at whatever temperature we want and expect the world to be okay with that, so this is no big surprise.

What's worse is the monies from fishing licenses go mainly to preservation. Florida would be rightly pissed as the sport fishing industry down there supports a TON.

So ... he's the most honest politician evar! ;)

Edit: This is probably a diversion to keep folks occupied while something else is being put through.

I can't believe any of you actually believe this. Actually, on second thought I definitely can.

This is outragious, and I do not believe it will be tolerated.

Is the admin purposefully trying to get Dems tossed out in droves come this Nov?

Many are going to find this an assualt of the 'American way of life'.

The fact this is even (apparently) being seriously discussed in the Admin is going to fuel all kinds of claims of the Admin being 'radical left' etc.

The PR/optics of this are terrible.

Yet he and the elite are to be free to do all of those, so that they can take better care of us. Our only hope is an absolute anti-democrat slaughter in the November election.

PM me if he actually issues the executive order.

I hope that whatever shred of intellect Obama has will prevent him from doing this, but the fact that it's even being considered is very disturbing. And BTW, I'm not even an angler.

Maybe there will be a 'crisis' and the fall elections will be 'temporarily' suspended. Pretty far fetched, but if you look at the degree to which the administration is willing to buck public sentiment, it does make me wonder. I mean I fully understand their position that they are smarter than the people and know best what needs to be done. Just to clear up any possible confusion, I said I understand, not agree.

Obama has told wary Dems to "trust me". What's up with that?

What's to believe or not to believe?

Is ESPN now some ultra right-wing website that can't be trusted?

TBH, sounds like an article from the Onion.

If I was Obama I'd get Gibbs out pronto to squash this.

This is great, now everyone needs to get this into the media (like fox) to make sure the american public is aware that Obama is planning to remove their right to fish with the stroke of a pen. Dems are going to get crushed in November.

The claim that a president is going to ban fishing is outright ridiculous. The stupidity being displayed here is jaw dropping. Anyone remember the outrage when Obama meddled with Nascar...?
