Really? With all the trouble our nation is in regarding economy which the president has done little to nothing about this is how he needs to spend his time? Not to mention dereliction of duty as commander in chief.

"It's the economy stupid."

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100427/ts_alt_afp/usvotepoliticsobama

President Barack Obama heads into the American heartland Tuesday to launch the Democratic mid-term election campaign in states paying a heavy price for the worst economic crisis in decades.

Obama will spend two days hopscotching across Illinois, Iowa and Missouri, after urging his young, multi-racial supporters to thwart what an aide termed a Republican-induced "nightmare" at mid-term elections in November.

Democrats fear heavy losses in the polls, which could put their grip on Congress at risk, as opinion surveys show Obama still has lagging approval ratings nationwide, despite several recent big victories.

what specifically do you propose Obama should be spending his time doing?

there's no magic wand the president can wave to create jobs (well, not counting the billion people hired for the census)

He could assure businesses he isn't out to destroy them and promise to not sign punishing legislation to wealth creation and investment. That would be a good start.

And LOL at the comments on the article. I just don't think obama understands how much he is despised by most people in this country.

If Obama is working on the Economy, the OP thinks he is destroying the country.

If Obama is not spending his time working on the economy, he is abandoning his responsibility.

Frankly Obama could get everyone in America a job, start a lasting peace in the middle east, North Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan and everywhere else and spidey would still hate him.

Deep down he is a racist bigot and doesn't have the guts to admit it publicly.

One of the righty tighty myths promoted on this thread is that Obama should stay in the white house and work harder. And then he would have better results with his agenda being passed by the legislative branch.

Which is false on a number of levels.

(1) Obama, as head of the executive branch has various cabinet level officials, in various departments like heath and human services, the SEC, the department of the treasury, and the list is almost endless, who crunch number, examine public policy options, and below those department heads are thousand of employees. Regardless of where the President is or is doing, that work goes on.

(2) Once various policy initiatives are suggested by Obama, then the executive branch can make proposals to the legislative branch, the separate and coequal legislative branch is still free to ignore any executive branch recommendations.

(3) Still, and should State as MHO, Obama and the democratic dominated legislative branch are not lacking in all kinds of very good legislation.

(4) But without changing Senate filibuster rules, the GOP lock step opposes everything the President and the democratic congress wants, using the tyranny of the minority.

(5) Therefore the Democratic roadblock problem is the GOP, and the way to bring the fight to the GOP and to ask for the help of the American people is through the general election of 11/2010. And every President in our history has campaigned for his party.

(6) There is a core of very right wing GOP politicians who are convinced they are right, but if they run too far to the right, they may be buried in yet another democratic landslide, in 11/2010. Especially if the general public gets really fed up with GOP blocking of needed legislation and reforms. And the recent GOP blockage of financial reform may give the dems just such an issue and let them strike back hard.

I don't know about Spidey, but I, for one, would forgive Obama all his trespasses and fumbles if he was able to accomplish even one task of such magnitude. My guess, though, is that he'd do what he has done with every other thing he has touched thus far, including many of the items you listed -- that is, make them even worse and quite possibly beyond repair.

Sad that.

Exactly. He would actually get some respect if he'd just come out and admit he's a racist.

Economy gained near 6% GDP in Q4 and 160,000+ jobs growth last month with housing prices continuing to climb.

So, FYI, you're dumb.

I highly doubt that.
The US has had some VERY bad presidents. Obama, while probably not a great president, is certainly better than some. And he is most certainly not intentionally trying to destroy the country.

I can understand political policy disagreements, but posters such as Spidey, PJABBER and Patranus take things to an entirely different level. The hyperbole, vitriol, and bigotry spewed forth by them irks me.

I HAVE IT! THE SOLUTION! Obama reinstates the draft, everyone has a job because the men are called to the military, the women work the other jobs... and the military deploys to all the listed countries to force peace! :awe:

I'm starting to realize that current thinking says if you love your country, personal liberty, destiny and responsibility, believe in working for your money and property and a strong anti-tax stance you're obviously a racist. Since that is now what a racist is I'm a very proud racist.

THAT is something else that irks me.
This same line has been posted ad infinium here.
There are plenty of nominal political reasons to disagree with Obama.
But there are also plenty of people who use those reasons as a crutch for their own bigoted racist crap.
If the right were to kick the racists out instead of half embracing them then maybe you wouldn't have the confusion on if the disagreement is purely political or if there is an underlying racial hate that is simply being manifested through politics.

You don't love your country. You simply hate the president because he isn't an old white guy.

Fuck you. You can call me all the names in the world but nobody tells me I don't love my country. Go fuck yourself.

If you really loved your country you wouldn't post half the crap you do.
You might also take the time to realize you and your "we the people" bullshit is just that, bullshit.
If you loved your country you would realize that compromise was the way this country was built and that one way politics only causes problems and that the solutions offered by it are sub-par at best.
I could go on, but it is still obvious to me, and likely to everyone else here that you don't love your country. You only love yourself.
