really? illegal immigration is the BIG issue? not iraq or how much money and lives we're wasting in iraq or the economic crisis? you're worried about mexicans? really?

How much money are we wasting by letting our emergency rooms fill up with illegals every second of every day? It is not uncommon in many ER's now a days to have a good 6+ hour wait for care....all the while the bills are not getting paid.

How much money gets wasted on surgeries that cost thousands upon thousands of dollars from illegal immigrant caused crime and general poor health?

It is astronomical. A hospital I used to work for loses over 190 million a year from that alone. That's 1 hopsital, each year, and it's only going up. Now, illegals don't make up all that 190 million....but from what I've seen 1st hand it's a GOOD amount.
McCain wanted illegal amnesty.

That would've been like a huge invite for the entire country of Mexico.

Come on over, we'll give you amnesty!

Only a third of Bush's increases in spending after 9/11 had anything to do with war or security spending. Try again, mister apologist who assumes facts to fit your ideology.

Like I said...........made insignificant in one (yet another) paragraph!!!

Point being.......you'll argue the sum is a lot or a little in tomorrow's...thread du jour...to support your position.

Fact.....Bush had to deal with it......Clinton did not.

No, you're lying with the words you put in my mouth. I say the sum is *a lot*, but that the sums having nothing to do with it - disproving your claim - are twice as large.

Fact... two thirds of the increased spending when I last checked had nothing to do with your 'fact' that Bush had to deal with 9/11 and Iraq.

But you are arguing from ideology, not rationality, so you couldn't care less about the facts.

How much would your fruit cost picked by Americans at minimum wage or more? How much your meat?

Bush had to deal with 9/11? Of course- That doesn't mean he had to exploit fear and hurt pride the way he did, either. 9/11 was the greatest political windfall since Pearl Harbor, ruthlessly used and abused both at home and abroad. Fearmongering and conflation of issues became rampant, facilitating aggression abroad and an epic looting spree on the domestic front.

His successor starts rather deep in the hole, mired in foreign conflict, saddled with $11T in debt, immense and undeserved inequality, an economy hollowed out by offshoring, debt and looting, a largely reactionary federal judiciary and unrealistic public expectations of prosperity.

Anybody can puff themselves up into a hero in the face of a largely imaginary threat, and anybody can look good on borrowed money, for awhile, anyway.

Bush's successor won't enjoy such luxuries, rather being forced to take some hugely unpopular actions to rectify the situation. I rather suspect we'll often react like the spoiled children we've become, with those who've actively promoted and gained the most from lax stupidity lashing out the hardest...

The math is pretty simple. Let's say an illegal immigrant is picking fruit for $2 an hour (probably low.) And you decide to increase the pay to minimimum wage. Heck, let's say you increase the pay to $8 an hour, for simplicity's sake. That's an increase of $6 per hour. How many apples do you think an immigrant picks in an hour? 5 a minute (very slow) is 300 an hour, or 2 extra cents per apple, an insignificant amount.
