Well well well!

He finally spoke out against Trump, for real.

I don't know if Merica really was served by Obama's standoffish, classy-guy tactic of letting Dumpy essentially do his own thing for three and a half years without any comment. Of course, a person with the least bit of tact would know it's not really their place to second-guess the next Prez, and I suppose Obama also felt he could use a break from all the attention it would give him - and after eight years as Prez without any genuine vacation (unlike Dumpy who golfs two days out of every seven and spends most of his workdays on "executive time" watching TV), he probably deserved it.

But we know Dumpy would not have given him the same courtesy, had their roles been reversed. And the Repuggers have been busy dismantling U.S. gov't and democracy, and ceaselessly sowing seeds of dissent and breeding division and strife amongst the populace, so maybe he should have said more. *shrug*

With the benefit of hindsight it's easy to make these observations. Like with all processes of entrophy, the Repuggers' influence has been creeping, eroding a bit here, and a bit there. It's only when you finally take a few steps back that you see that the whole structure is starting to come unglued.

*shrug* Hm. Maybe I assume too much.

About the speech... At times I felt it was a bit preachy and speaking to the already converted. But the way U.S. political discourse has been poisoned of late, it's not as if any Repuggers would have been turned around anyway regardless of what message Obama delivered. Or even listen at all, probably. So you might as well burn all your calories trying to get your own all fired up and ready to vote I suppose.

Today Fox is complaining that the DNC convention hasn't pointed out their platform...They forget Trump was asked what his plans were for the next four years by Hannity and couldn't come up with an answer.
Or that the Republican Platform is the same as 2016.

It doesn't matter, no one watching Fox News to be informed is going to do anything other than vote for whomever Fox News tells them to vote for.

Yep. I got gas today (NJ) and the guy who pumped my gas is a Trump fan. He looks and acts every bit like a Trump supporter too. Goatee, hunter, lives in a trailer, drives a pickup, votes Republican. Oh, I listened to his non sense. COVID19 isn't real. Mail in voting needs to end, Biden sucks, Harris is a joke, and if Trump isn't elected America is doomed! Oh, democrats are to blame for everything apparently, and no one is going to take my guns. Yadda yadda yadda.

There is a percentage of Americans who are staunch Trump supporters. What Obama has to say doesn't register to these people. I wonder if part of this has to do with race? America is changing, and this is very scary and painful time for many Americans.

Republican traditions like Christian white male privilege (Christian white male supremacy is more accurate but might hurt the feels of the conservative snowflakes who pretend they aren't snowflakes) is a very important tradition for conservatives.

They can talk about taxes, but taxes have never been fucking lower in the last 100 years. They can talk about freedom, but their freedom to run around infecting people with a disease is all but unchecked. They can talk about the first amendment, but they're free to stand on the corner and shout hilariously bigoted shit and the police will come over and tell them to be careful because of the protesters walking down the street. They can talk about gun rights but they can still order $100,000 worth of semi-auto rifles, large magazines and ammunition and have it delivered to a FFL in almost every single state in the US.

Their complaints are manufactured by the propagandists who tell them what to think. Their fears are stoked to keep them reliably voting for the people who don't give a fuck about them except for their vote and/or tithing.

The real thing that they know is getting taken away is Christian white male privilege. Everything else they're told to be scared about is just a fever dream.

This was on a Facebook post about Trump's re-election: This is how delusional they are, twisting their religion to fit their feels.

"Every human being before repenting and asking God for forgiveness; has a sinful past; But when they turn to Jesus Christ, He forgives them and erases their past. Did you know this good news? If Christ has already forgiven and forgotten his Donald Trump past; Who are you to mention the past life of President Donald Trump? God gives us all a second chance. Have you already received it? Have you already repented of your sins?
Hatred and bitterness disturb the mind and opinions. Remember that the founding fathers of our nation were not perfect; but they gave the people the opportunity and motivation to seek God. "In God We Trust"; By this principle, we were blessed and prospered. Let's not lose this vision and blessing.
Now, President Donald Trump has taken on spiritual, moral and developmental values; which are the foundations of complete prosperity for every person, family and every nation. God bless you. Let's pray for President Donald Trump."

Highlighted portion is the typical Evangelical Mammon worship, dressed up like Christianity.

Lets not forget the original sin reference....which again, brings to mind that if that were true, every infant that passed away prior to being able to ask God for forgiveness (for whatever an infant needs to ask God for forgiveness for), are fated to Hell.

If that's not true, then there is no original sin. Can't have it both ways.

It says "Donald Trump has taken on...values." 🙄

Even without religion, these people would still be living on another planet.

If you ask god for a second chance does all the sins you commit afterwards get forgiven as well? Because, unless trump was saved recently, he’s sure done a lot of sinning just in the last five years.

I also liked how in that post they referenced the founding fathers and “in god we trust”, which wasn’t a thing until the 1950’s.

In theory, penance must actually be sincere. It wouldn't be enough to just ask for forgiveness. You have to mean it. Presumably if one just keeps on sinning without even a break from it, the penance was never sincere.

Trump is obviously incapable of sincere regret or remorse. If this "hell" they believe in was real, Trump would definitely be a future resident.

I'm thinking maybe there's a simple explanation for that. If you stand around pumping gas all day long every day, breathing the fumes... It's gonna do a number on your brain.

Trumpism: cause and effect, like.

Took a political temperature/wind check with a spit finger held high up in the air and damn if I didn't feel the frustration, the anger, the fear and the desperation of those Trumpies in my district due to Trump's sinking ratings, those traitorous Lincoln Project Repubs spreading damning truths and facts about Trump that should remain religiously unspoken in their world, Bannon getting arrested, Trump freely admitting to the purpose of his Post Office headhunting and ransacking safaris, the feeling of impending doom and gloom hovering over their heads like black clouds as the days get closer and closer to November.

The silver lining behind those dark clouds? It's Biden's and Harris's gleaming beaming smiles showing of their file sharpened teeth the better to shred Trump's and McConnell's hopes and dreams of an endless string of terms in office and fuck off with the Constitution and the Rule of Law, it's their version of a "New Deal" in order to Make America Gone Autocratic.

The main fallacy with this argument is that DJT is sinning as much in the present as he had in the past. By giving him a free pass their religious practices fail to impose any sort of social control on their selected leader-it serves as a justification of the results rather than a means of social control.

Yes! When I was listening to this man it sounded like I was listening to Fox News, and every conspiracy FB blog on the net. There was no independent thought, because TBH I doubt he could think independently. Most people are sheep. They need to be told what to do. THis goes for both parties BTW. It's why I view myself as an independent. When I vote I like to be free of the dogma that comes with being a democrat or republican. I like to analyze what they say and make my best judgement.

The one thing that bothers me about the Republican mindset is that if a number of them are truly not fans of Donald Trump, whether spoken or unspoken, why wasn't there really any movement for a decent candidate to oppose him in the 2020 primary? It's not like Donald Trump has to be the Republican nominee (the sitting President still has to be approved by their party for the ballot). However, I'm sure they know that "in-fighting" would likely lead to an even worse chance of winning, so they'd rather continue to hitch their wagon to Trump.

Trump's popularity among republicans was too high. They were never going to be able to give the nomination to someone else.

The problem with the GOP is their base is insane. That cannot be fixed by any kind of political maneuvering in the short term. Indeed, the only way to "fix" it is to get rid of Fox News and the rest of conservative media.

Is Trump actually that popular? I guess the one thing that I haven't seen a lot of is whether or not Trump's numbers in the polls are due to him being a favored candidate, or whether we have to consider that he will get a decent chunk of votes simply because of the 'R' beside his name.

I live in somewhat of a purple area of the south where I'd say it's maybe 40% Democrat and 60% Republican. I have heard some disdain over Trump from right-leaning friends; however, I'm also not sure how genuine it is. While I hear that they don't like Trump, it's almost always followed with a "but" and reasons why the Democrat candidate is also bad. It makes me wonder if those negative reasons about the Democrat candidate is really more of an excuse than anything. I mean... I had one person tell me that they would've voted Democrat if Tulsi Gabbard had won the nomination. ...and I don't think there's a lot that needs to be said about that.

You know, you can be registered for either party and still vote for whatever candidate you like. It's not a straitjacket. Being registered independent doesn't make you more or less of a sheep than anyone (I say, as a fellow registered independent).

Lorton would be a nice description of Hell.
