Gotta love the attitude and blind denial of the Rightie-Tighties.
Nobody wants the guilty to go free, but we do want the President to protect and defend the Constitution. GWB and cronies clusterflucked the whole thing so badly that quite probably more guilty parties may be set free than if they'd done just that, instead of using the whole thing as a political grandstand in defiance of the constitution and of common decency. Like it or not, we are a nation of laws, a republic based on constitutional principles, and no "Terrarist Threat!" entitles any President to forget that, which is precisely what's occurred.
Yeh, I know, Bushfans popped huge woodies at the thought of Terrarists! being stretched on the Rack, made to confess all, but that says more about their so-called "values" than anything else, and about just what kind of "principles" they adhere to, which is to say none at all...
Freedom simply cannot be defended with the tools of Tyrants, no matter how much Jack Bauer you've been watching... In doing that, we become tyrants ourselves.
