Obama changes "you can keep it" slogan, makes it seem like we misunderstood him

Then why in the hell are you and the Tea Party getting in the way?

You completely failed to understand what was said, which is not really surprising.

It is routinely pointed out that other first world nations pay roughly half of what we pay for health care.

It is a fact that government spending on health care in the US already accounts for half of all medical spending.

This spending only covers around 10% of Americans.

So how is it that you believe we'll be able to cover the other 90% of Americans for nothing?

According to typical liberal ranting on single payer it costs half as much as US healthcare. Since half of all health care costs are paid by the government currently then logically implementing it should be possible without raising a dime in new taxes, and at the same time people and businesses will no longer have to pay for health care. Seems like an awesome deal.

So I wonder why the Obama didn't get up behind his teleprompter and say that Americans will never have to pay for healthcare again and we won't even have to raise taxes to do it? 😕

Some countries, like Switzerland, Israel, etc, have health care systems with private insurers or HMOs, subsidies, and individual (and/or employer) mandate, and also get better results and cover everyone while spending about half of what we spend. There is a whole range of universal coverage systems between mandatory private insurance and single payer, and even single operator. With Lieberman firmly in the pocket of Connecticut insurance industry, even public option was not possible, much less single payer. So we ended up more on the right side of the spectrum, but there are similar systems with good results, so it's as good of a starting point as any.

We'll also be reminding people who are gaining insurance through Medicaid expansion and shall-issue rule that it's because of Obama.

More people are losing their insurance than getting obamacare by many multiples. So please keep reminding that small amount of people compared to the millions losing their insurance thanks to obama.

Obama lied, prices rised.

I always wondered why ER visits cost so much more?

The building is already there, lights are already on, taxes already being paid, machinery is already there....sounds like all of the overhead is already taken care of. With the mass numbers of people in there, they should be pretty efficient at moving people through.

Why is an ER so much more expensive than a different facility?

Treating actual emergencies is naturally going to be more expensive. When you have to tend to a person as quickly as possible there are a ton of things that jack up prices:

- Ambulance rides with EMTs staffed, which have a lot of expensive equipment and medical supplies that need to be constantly stocked
- Normally over-staffed because you have to be ready to deal with a sudden spike in patients without keeping some waiting
- Staffed 24/7 and therefore paying more on average to work less convenient hours
- Needs emergency facilities/machinery maintained and ready at all times
- Need to run many tests in parallel to quickly diagnose/rule out problems, don't have the luxury of waiting on results in order

It's not just more expensive, it's a waste of resources that could be used more efficiently to tend to people in less critical situations.

It's tough to keep track with so many ACA threads going on but this Forbes article was referenced somewhere else as well. In that thread I noted that there are very serious methodology concerns with the underlying Manhattan Institute study. Having reviewed their disclosed methodology and tried to replicate results with source data I cannot endorse the study as even being plausible at this time.

I just thought I'd follow up on this. I was able to replicate at least one of the source studies results, but I had to violate their stated methodology to do so. In order to get at the result I verified I had to use a statistical method that is misrepresentative of a true comparison study.

No need to argue this to death, we'll tell people who end up gaining insurance that it's because of Obama, and you tell people who end up losing insurance that it's because of Obama, and we'll see who comes out ahead.

Obama on NBC News about million of American could not keep the insurance that they like: "....I am sorry...."

Obama’s comments come 10 days after NBC News’ Lisa Myers reported that the administration has known since the summer of 2010 that millions of Americans could lose their insurance under the law.

“Obviously we didn’t do a good enough job in terms of how we crafted the law," Obama said in the interview Thursday. "And, you know, that’s something I regret. That’s something we’re gonna do everything we can to get fixed ... We’re looking at a range of options.”

After the initial NBC News report, the administration insisted that the president did not mislead Americans, arguing that the law could not have accounted for insurers altering existing plans after passage of the law.

Yet earlier this week, Obama tweaked his promise, acknowledging that plans that have been substantially changed since passage of the law would no longer be “grandfathered” into acceptance under the ACA.

Frustration among even some Democrats supportive of the Obamacare bill boiled over this week as coverage of the dropped plans continued.

Sen. Max Baucus, the Democratic Senate Finance Committee Chairman and a key author of the bill, called the problems “unacceptable” during a hearing at which Health and Human Service Secretary Kathleen Sebelius was grilled on Wednesday.

“It has been disappointing to see members of the administration say they didn’t see the problems coming,” he said.

Good for him, it was a stupid assurance to give. If you are reforming health care, don't promise things will stay the same.

It's a fact that the people losing their insurance because of Obama will have to pay more for insurance after they lose their insurance, because of Obama.

If you're fine with the truth that Obama is causing people to lose their insurance and in turn be forced to pay more, then let us shout that fact across the nation.

How could they not see it coming? Intelligent people have been saying before it was even signed that this would be the obvious effect - people losing their insurance, employers dropping hours, employers dropping insurance.

It's common sense and was well known by smart people. Those that didn't see this coming are complete idiots and/or democrats. Same thing really. Liberal = mental illness combined with total lack of intelligence.

Obama - "If you like your plan, you can keep it. Period" Fucking liar, great fuck be upon him.j He repeated this lie over and over when intelligent people (Republicans) questioned his healthcare law and pointed out "this is going to force people off their current insurance plans".

Because the people saying it were republicans.

The dem's have been so conditioned through their lying, they actually believe all republicans are stupid, and everything they say is wrong. If a republican says the sun rises in the east, the lib's will say he's lying.

You spineless little shit.

You pathetic little weasel, you've been arguing for days that Obama was not wrong because it was true for the majority, despite fact after fact being thrown in your face. Now, when finally Obama comes as close to an apology as a politician is likely to give you say "good for him, it was a stupid assurance".

You are a vile little sycophant, a wretched bootlicker. You are like the hunchback in 300, a vile little creature possessing of little but greed and a lust to rise above his inevitably low station. Your behavior really is atrocious for an adult, I hope you are ashamed of yourself. I know most of the people in this thread are absolutely embarrassed for you and disgusted by what you have let yourself become. I shall change my avatar in honor of your shame, so every time you see it you are reminded of how egregious your behavior was here. I am not so much mad at you, but rather disappointed, like a parent disappointed at what his kid has done. I feel you can do better. Please prove me right.

Talk it all out

You are a total idiot, not worthy of respect nor the words you speak.

It's a fact that more people are losing their insurance because of Obama.

Obama - "You can keep your plan"

You are a liar, an idiot and your words are worthless to intelligent people so shut the fuck up and shut your dumb mouth while the adults speak you idiot democrat.

Freeze the enemy - "obama promised we could keep our insurance"
Deny everything
Make counter accusations and insults

Peculiar that the resident rightwingers here can't make a point aside from ad hominems and name calling. Not surprising, but peculiar.

Shut up retard. Your opinion doesn't matter to Americans losing their health insurance because of obama.

Obamas war on the middle class is being felt by all.

You are trending at the top of the fucktard list right now in P&N and it would be dishonest not to state it.

Nothing peculiar about it at all.

This all reminds me of the Transfomrer movie. On the side of the defetacom police car were written the words "To Punish and To Enslave"! That is the purpose of Obamacare.

The obama is now toxic. The thing is called Obamacare. There's no running away from it. It's got his name on it. His fingerprints are all over it. You see the president, you think about the policy and you know it's a disaster. And the problem for the liberals is, they are hostage to a bunch of geeks working right now late into the night trying to fix a system which is not just the glitches in the web site. The architecture, the underlying structure of it is wrong. And it's built and sold on a foundation of lies.

Conservatives lack the ability to tell time.

He said "If you LIKE your insurance..."

Obama didn't say "If you like the insurance you will buy in the future..."

It's like your wife says "If you like your car you can keep it", then a year later you buy a dump trunk that doesn't fit in your garage so you have to sell it, then you go to your wife and say "But you said I could keep my car if I like it!!"

That's one of the better contortions justifying the lie.
