Obama already cannonized? Anyone sick of the hoo-ha surrounding him yet?

Is it just me, or is anyone else getting sick of all the celebratory hoo-ha surrounding Obama as we approach the inauguration? At least that's the impression I get from listening to NPR. I voted for Obama, but I don't regard him as a divine savior. What I find very bothersome is that it almost seems as though many Americans are giving him a blank check instead of keeping a skeptical eye on him, which we should do for all politicians.

Obama lovers are going to be in for a huge letdown when they finally realize that he's just a normal politician and that he really won't fix our problems and might even make things a little worse.

Give the new guy a chance to show what he is going to do; similar to the 100 days that previous presidents & congress have used to shine/fail.

Then if needed, post this thread. At that time, there will be comething to measure against.

I think it is because Bush has such a low standard to meet that there is a much better than even chance that Obama will be a better President. Therefore, most people are extremely happy to be getting an upgrade.

THis innaguration crap is getting a little old. Yes this is history. They are promoting this like the Superbowl. I am just wondering if he will enter the ring and fight Beef Supreme to claim ultimate victory.

The worst was Sat night an infomercial was playing about 2 in the morning trying to sell Obama coins. Jese H the people on there were blathering off all of this stuff they had no clue about. I finally had to walk from the other room and turn the channel.

To be fair there are retards on TV that sell coins based on pretty much anything, and they always try to make it sound like it's hot, historic shit.

Yes, very bored of it. I wanted him to win but if I had tickets for his inauguration and a free ticket to DC I'd have sold each of them for a hundred bucks to go sight-seeing instead, couldn't care less. Nothing is going to happen, just a guy in front of a whack of people.

I think people are also happy bush is leaving office. So compound some of that enthusiasm with the first black president and all the change and you get lots of excited.

This is sort of a Repost, but the problem is "24 hour News". You'd think it would be able to cover all kinds of stories and make the Viewer more informed. Instead, it has become the Kill-one-story-to-death-in-order-to-keep-Marketshare Media.

I'm happy that Bush is leaving and happy that Obama is coming in.

but I wish the news media would spend more time talking about the things actually going on in the world that Obama's going to have to deal with rather than the omfgfirstblackpresident orgy that's been on CNN all weekend.

Those guys on TV who are making money aren't the retards. It's the people who fall for it and who actually buy that crap who are the retards.

Sick of it? No, but only because I haven't been paying attention. Are people a little too excited? Probably. I for one will bypass the hype and keep a watchful eye on what he DOES as opposed to what he says. Hopefully he will do a good job. One thing is for sure though...the hype surrounding him can sell a lot of useless crap! :p

Good point. i wonder if a poll has been done to quantify the layman's knowledge of news now vs, say, 15 years ago. is it better? The internet certainly makes access to it easier, but does the average Joe take advantage of that? Sure they are well informed about Britney's kids, but to other issues, I wonder.

Anyone else sick of hearing people tell you how sick they are of hearing about the hoo-ha?
Not me!

Call me starry-eyed, but I think all politicians deserve to be cannonized. It certainly seems like it would be an appropriate tribute.

The euphoria surrounding the fact that Bush will no longer be our leader has some very excited.

Well Obama needs to actually start making decisions now.. he can't just give lip service to 'change' anymore. Going to be interesting what he does when he just can't pass the buck or avoid the issue like he has done during his time in the Senate.

How does he compare to Tim Tebow? Can spending 20 minutes with him make you a better person?

It's you. Get over yourself and appreciate the history we're making. It's only a couple of hundred years late.

Like all hype it's bound to pop. There was a guy on CNN this morning at the MLK celebration saying Obama is on track to be the greatest President in history. How is that? Because he is a good speaker? So was Clinton, Reagan, etc.

I think people turn the civil rights victory into something messianic.

I don't watch TV so I don't know what you are talking about. The print media seems to scrutinize his appointments and such.

Tough question. Obama can make baskets from half court while not breaking a sweat. Tebow can run an efficient spread option attack.

Who wins?
