Oasis was a better band than The Beatles

True. I did say you can't compare Oasis to The Beatles (I used a Kid Rock vs. Al Green analogy to stress on this). And by the way, I'm not a pump-up-the-distortion kinda person. Most nu-metal annoys me. It's just that I think a lot of people who think 'The Beatles' are the greatest band ever, are the people who grew up listening to them. I'm a 20-yr-old and the best records I found in my Dad's collection were Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.

Then you definitely owe it to yourself to listen to those three albums. I didn't really start to get into them until I was older than you. All the Beatles my parents had were the Red and Blue greatest hits collections, and you definitely miss out on their best stuff if all you hear is the #1 stuff.

This to me is amazing -

"During the week of April 4, 1964 The Beatles occupied the first five slots of the Billboard Hot 100, #1 - "Can't Buy Me Love," #2 - "Twist and Shout," #3 - "She Loves You," #4 - "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and #5 - "Please Please Me," the only group in rock and roll history to achieve this feat. That same week they also had another nine charting records in the Hot 100, bringing the total to fourteen for the week, another feat unlikely to ever be matched in the future. "

America's - "Most no. 1 albums in the Billboard Top 200 albums charts (19 no.1 albums)."

"Most songs inside the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time (14 songs on April 11, 1964)."

"Group with most weeks in the Billboard Hot 100 chart (609 weeks). "

"The only act to have held the no. 1 and no. 2 position in the Billboard albums chart for 9 straight weeks on two separate occasions (March 2 to April 27 and August 29 to October 24, 1964). " WOW

Many more interesting stats here.

hate to break it to you, but even when i was in junior high, i knew enough about music to respond to "wonderwall" with "this fvcking sucks." drony, repeatitive garbage. just because they had ghost musicians, digital vocal pitch correction, and all the other modern garbage to correct their sh!tty playing and singing doesn't make up for the fact that their songs just flat out sucked. i'm not talking about comparisons with the beatles, even. if i saw oasis playing in a bar for free, i'd walk out.

This just in, Oasis is also > Zeppelin, Sabbath, Floyd, and every other great rock band.

Lets just say Oasis is the best rock band there is, has been or ever will be. Yep

I would never say that Oasis is better than The Beatles, but I listen to Oasis far more. Naysayers might give Noel sung songs a chance. he actually has dynamics in his singing, unlike Liam. Oasis MTV Unplugged is a great performance.

Some Oasis chart facts:

Definitely Maybe was the fastest-selling debut album in UK pop history.

(What's the Story) Morning Glory? became the second largest selling album of all-time in the UK.

Most weeks spent on the chart in a calendar year: 134 by Oasis (1996).

Oasis performed back-to-back concerts at Knebworth on August 10 and 11, 1996. The band sold out both shows within minutes; 250,000 people over two nights, at the time a record-breaking number for an outdoor concert held in the UK.

Be Here Now become the fastest-selling album in UK history (a record which still stands), selling 423,000 units on its day of release and it also holds the record for most units moved in the first week.

Oasis holds the record for Most Consecutive Top 10 Hits at 20.

ugh, please stop with the stats. i'm sure the backstreet boys, nsync, and brittany spears also have impressive billboard stats but that doesn't make 'em any good. that goes for the beatles, oasis, and any other band.

as far as i'm *personally* concerned, i never got the big deal behind the beatles. to *me* it reinforces the study that popularity begets more popularity (there was a study where music was played to people. group a heard a song with some no-name band and they didn't think much of it whereas another group heard the same song with a popular band's name attached to it and they all exclaimed how great it was; there's a link to it somewhere on slashdot). maybe that explains why *I'm* not a fan of the beatles because I didn't grow up listening to them and hearing about them from others.

I hate those lists of top 100 bands or whatever. Listen to what you like and not because of other people.

Abbey Road is better than all oasis albums plus any albums they will ever make plus any albums any of their descendants will ever make throughout the remainder of history combined together. In fact, I'd say probably any 3 song segment from abbey road is as well.

For those who think Oasis sucks talent-wise...you clearly have not seen them play. They're one of the best sounding bands live...I've seen them numerous times....and their sound is leaps and bounds better live than most bands out today. Its true that they haven't had a big hit in the US since "wonderwall"...but thats not why I am a fan. Their whole catalog of music is amazing....mostly the ones people haven't heard here in the US. Liam is just Liam..there are plenty of other singers who are just as big of a prick as he is at times. I respect them more now than before because they tour relentlessly and have perfected their sound live. Their albums are great.....but I can honestly say that none of them compare to most of the Beatles albums. The White album is my personal favorite...but Revolver, Abbey Road, and Sgt. Peppers....you just can't compare.

As mentioned before...please go buy the albums if you're planning on checking the Beatles out. I realized that the Blue and Red best of albums are just albums to get you interested in the Beatles. Listening to the whole albums(Revolver, Abbey Road especially) from the beginning to the end will just blow you away....I know I was immediately hooked and had a new found respect for what the Beatles did when I first heard those albums.

Ahh yes...here it is. SNL skit of the British Parliament.

Michael Shersby: [ seemingly distracted ] How can.. the Prime minister.. support a law.. that makes it illegal for people.. who.. [ gets to the real point he's been fidgeting with ] ..What I'm trying to say is.. Oasis rules!

Betty Boothroyd: [ sternly ] Mr. Shersby!! You've been warned seven times this month to stop bringing up Oasis!

Michael Shersby: But is not Oasis the greatest British band since the Beatles? Can we not vote on this?!

Betty Boothroyd: Enough! Enough!! No votes will be taken on the subject of Oasis! Question, Mr. Simon Coombs!

...

Betty Boothroyd: Orderrrr!! Orderrrr!! Question for the Prime Minister, Mr. Michael Shersby!

Michael Shersby: What steps has the Prime Minister.. taken to prevent Liam Gallagher from leaving?

John Major: Uh.. yes. what exactly is the right gentleman talking about, and who is Liam Gallagher?!

Michael Shersby: He is the lead singer of Oasis! And if he leaves, it will be be bloody awful!

[ the crowd grows rowdy again ]

John Major: Sit down! sit down! Ghastly man, sit down!

Clive Budgen: I'm still wearing ladies underwear!!

[ the crowd becomes rowdy with approval ]

[ suddenly, Michael Shersby breaks into the chorus of the Oasis song "Wonderwall" ]

John Major: Sit down! Sit down!

Betty Boothroyd: Order! Order!

Announcer: This concludes another session of the Prime Minister's questions from the House of Commons.

[ John Major stands upon his chair and begins to punch Michael Shersby in the mouth, trying to get him to stop singing the songs of Oasis ]

[ fade ]

Oasis may have talent but I do not even remotely like their sound or lyrics, nor have they remotely had the influence on those who followed the way the Beatled did. It's like saying x-men 3 is a better film than citizen kane.

Oasis is good..

But to say they're better than the Beatles?! WTF. Ya.. the recording technology is better now so things sound clearer. If Oasis had to play back in the 60's and 70's, their songs would sound every bit as gritty as the Beatles. Saying Oasis is better is completely ridiculous.

The Beatles defined the Rock and Roll band.. Oasis is merely a popular band now.

LOL! What's that from? Is it American or British TV?

It was a skit on Saturday Night Live several years back. I can't find the video of it but it had me and my roommate at the time nearly rolling on the floor laughing.

It's uncannily like the real thing 🙂 they always follow 'the honorable gentleman' with some kind of insult.
