I think society is too sensitive for the most part...but I think its WAY too soon to be making jokes, what if jokes were made about sept 11? people still find it offensive several years later. If it were to happen just weeks afterwards imagine what would happen. As for the racism, its not surprising, some of the biggest racists I know are the ones that claim they want "equal" treatment or this group should be treated better, etc. That's just the way it is, racism will never be eliminated, we just have to do our best as individuals to not partake in it.

As to the song, the reason asians are easily portrayed as such is because in the past (say the 80s), asians probably didn't have enough political clout to really do anything.

Also, many Asians, due to a history of being exploited by their government whether domestic or foreign imperialist, have adopted a mindset of "if I don't make trouble, it'll all blow over" sort of approach.

Thus even in the states, you'll see asian american citizens who have the right to vote but demonstrate no political activism.

I had a latina roommate once explain to me that Mexicans and blacks have always had a negative stigma against asians. I'm guessing it probably has something to do with the percieved notion that minorities are all competing against one another for jobs/respect/etc....
