Perhaps the Homeland Security (or who ever is in charge of this sort of thing) has agents floating around, dressed in various levels of suspicious attire performing various levels suspicious acts, to test how JohnQPublic would react to certain situations and who would be notified.

PLEASE tell me you're kidding right?

Just wondering if the clicker was something like this:

Hand Counter

If so, I use the same one when reciting prayers.

Do the prayers have to be recited at certain times?
I understand a person not wanting to be stopped when in
the middle of them but is it normal to do them on a subway
where people might be observing and wondering what the
person is doing?
Yeah, I was going to ask something like that. Do you have to continue saying the prayers until you complete 33 of them, or can you stop between prayers for a second?

This is why people need to learn more about the Muslim world. I didn't know that they count prayers with a hand counter, or any of that. I mean it's in our best interests to know more, so we can identify the regular, friendly-type Muslims from the psycho whackjob extremists. F%$# Rush and all them that keep saying "we don't need to know their culture, religion of peace my ass." Because they promote ignorance like that a majority of the population ties up law enforcement resources when they report "suspicious activity" that's just something normal for Muslims.

It's not "know thy enemy", it's "know the people within which thy enemy hides."

telstar1, would you mind if I contacted the media and have them look into this thread? I'm not trying to be an a** or anything like that, but if the way that NYPD dealt w/ you, then there is definitely an issue at hand IMO.

Zim, I was just as surprised as you were when telstar1 mentioned that the cop referred him to a phone number rather than look into the case at hand. You're not the only one who thinks there's a problem with that. I believe the number they gave him was the anti-terrorism hotline...

Be Suspicious of Anything Unattended. The goal is to raise customer awareness of the types of potential threats and to report such items to an MTA employee, a police officer, or the anti-terrorism hotline, 888-NYC-SAFE.

Telstar1, did you just phone in the info and leave it at that?

i honestly think you're giving them too much credit...

they can barely coordinate the intelligence they have coming in, much less make sense of it all - you think they have time and resources left over to go checking how the public would react ...?????

So, let me ask you a serious, non-biased question, and I expect a truthful answer: would you have felt alarmed and alerted authorities to this extent had the guy been blond with blue eyes and pink complexion?

How many terrorists do you know that fit that complexion?

Probably a better rebutle would be:
"How many active terrorist groups do you know that don't fit that description that have recently either planned or committed an act against New York or another major metropolitan area?"

This is crazy.

I wanted to post when I first saw this thread...remind me not to get banned again.

The guy had a FVCKING COUNTER. Is that really weird? Yea. But it was a goddamn counter, what is he gonna do with it?? When he reaches 200, does the subway explode? Really. Think about it.

Admit it, you were worried because it was a "suspicious" muslim guy. You can say all you want you'd do it if it were a blond haired, blue eyed white girl, but you're lying to us and yourself.

I wouldn't be suspicious of him being a terrorist. I'd be curious/confused as to what he was doing, maybe think he's a little out there, but I sure as hell wouldn't think "OMG al qaeda!!! tom ridge heeeeellllplppp!!!"

i see a lot of people on her calling the original poster a racist etc.

why is it that i dont hear or see more of an out cry from muslims organizations in america. why are there not campaigns to enlighten us on their culture from said organizations.

just look at this forum and you will see over and over again threads reinforcing the fact that the following stereotypes exist in our world, asians are smarter, blacks commit more crimes, muslims commit more acts of terrorism.

why is it still surprising to people that after 9/11 there are a lot of scared people wary of anyone who looks or fits the stereotype of the people who flew the planes into the buildings?

They do. They just don't have any recognizable/well-known leader or group.

Why should they anyways? Did Catholic churches here in the US make an outcry over IRA bombings? Maybe, but I never heard about it. Did churches make a big deal about McVeigh?

And if there were, they wouldn't get much media time :(

Way to raise a thread from the dead, Zim. ;)

The problem is that it's New York City.

NYC is the Criminal, Financial, Music, Cultural and Immigration Capital of the world.
If it's Imported, New, Funky Fresh or just Funky, it's in NYC and probably riding the subway.

I spent the first 25 years of my life in NYC; you couldn't PAY ME to go back.

The only thing I miss is Museum Row on the upper East Side. That's it. You can keep the crime, immigrants, pissed off cops, high cost of living, rats, roaches, drugs, signs in every language except English, traffic and the subway. Burn it all.

OK ACLU Lawyer Wannabe, I'd be more than pleased to verbally spank your Holier Than Thou ass.

The term "Immigrants", as usage is applied in THIS THREAD is defined as:

Any human from Jamaica, the countries of Africa, Poland, Italy, Cuba, Santo Domingo, Puerto Rico, Pakinstan, India, Trinidad, the Republics of Russia, etc that are in the United States ILLEGALLY whether that be on expired Visas, or just plain "snuck in the country."

BTW, that is about 95% of the non-native (not born in the United States) population of NYC.

Does that clarify it for you, Zim?

I grew up in the heart of "non English speaking NYC." You can't tell me shiit.

Just a quick note, most Muslims don't wear turbans, atleast not in the western world anyway. Most people with turbans and beards are Sikh (such as myself) and we are a seperate religion. Having said that, I can't tell if it was the right thing to do. I can only say that some people that posted in this thread need to get their head examined.
