I have read these forums for years. I made an account to reach out.

I can get to him, and will bring a hard drive with a ghosted image just in case it's a dead hard drive.

PM me.

It's a New York thing- we may seem gruff on T.V. but we're all warm bunch trying to help out when we can.. You should have seen us during the black out- we're a genuine/honest bunch - when we're telling you to fvck off for stealing our cab or when we offer a hand to someone in need..

I wish I were closer so I could help :( I used to do tech support/repairing/upgrading PCs and still do it for my friends and roomates in my spare time. If Jonothan were able to communicate online I'd be more than willing to try and walk him through some things but if it's a hardware problem it may be difficult to fix online, especially in his condition :(
Good luck, PM me if you'd like my assistance.

I wish I would have seen this earlier. I was in NYC all day today, I would have gladly stopped by to help him out in exchange for a cup of coffee and a place to rest my feet a while.

Hmmm I believe I know a few people in the NYC area that are computer techs. I'll make them aware of this thread. I really do wish I could help out but I don't have the $$ to spend on a plane ticket from Littleton, CO to NYC.

EDIT: I posted a link to this thread in the Maximum PC Commport [PC] member section. I'm one of the Forum Assistants over there (basically a super mod) and I'm fairly sure we have at least a few members in the NYC area.

Put me down as another hand. I could take a train ride up there & see what's happening. Unless something physically happened to the comp, shouldn't be hard to patch up.

Between me, Zim, & freedoms, I'm sure we could get things under order. Not to mention we'd be great company.:D:beer:

Let us know if any details pop up.

Bump. Let us know who ends up fixing it and how it goes! Amazing to see all the people who are offering to help.

It's heartwarming to see the offers to help.

I have a friend with CP and you cannot imagine how much his PC means to him. As slow as it is for him to use (he wears a helmet with a stick attached, and types by moving his head and causing the stick to hit keys), it means the world to him to be able to communicate with others.

Major props to you guys for helping out!

I can help out if Zim or any of the others can't make it. I am in Manhattan, where is he?

Damn. How nice is it to see a thread like this pop up among all the political/religious/argumentative BS threads, makes them all seem pretty inconsequential in comparison.

I can't make it there today, but if whoever gets there needs any help over the phone (local call-Manhattan) or through Remote Desktop or VNC, I'd be happy to help from my office.

I am too far to help with the computer (in Louisiana), but if anything else I can do. I am in.

I live and work in Long Island, but if no one ends up going there over the next few days, let me know, and I'll try to take the trip to Manhattan.

Thanks for all the offers of help and support so far. I am truly impressed.

For now, I have PMed all of the interested and hopefully we will get Jonothan up and running shortly.

Hey man, got your PM..

Sounds good dude. I have a class at 4 PM tomorrow but I'm free before then - just ask your friend if he has broadband internet access or internet access at all.. Sounds like a driver issue at play (a few actually). Should take me a few minutes to fix if he has a speedy connection - if not, I'd need some info from him so that I can download it ahead of time.. Here's what I'll need:
Manufacturer of every piece of hardware that he's using
He probably doesn't know the motherboard chipset - that's cool, just get me the model number of his dell.
Exact name/model number of the software

Please remind him to back up any data if possible. I don't want him to bitchslap me if I have to do a clean install of windows!

Thanks!

Fvck it, i know how sucky life without a working computer could be.... I'll do it tonight if I have to, it's not like i have plans... I'm out of school at 4:15- I can be in the city by 6 if need be....
