NY Giants just cut half of their defense

Half of their defense? What are you talking about?? They cut two pieces of broken down has-beens. Arrington and Emmons spent more time in rehab than they did on the playing field. Good riddance to both of those paperweights.
Same goes for ol' Luke, too. Good riddance. Could a new day be dawning for my Giants?

You've still got Eli and Coughlin, so I wouldn't say a new day exactly...

Hehe. You're right about that. But as a long suffering Giants fan, I'm grasping on to anything thrown my way at this point. There are a hell of a lot more players on that roster who are worthless, but Lavar and Emmons are a good starting point.
And as for Coughlin, this is his last year and we Giants fans will just have to live with his incompetence for one more year.

I'm a Browns fan, so congratulations on taking a step forward. Since I'm a Browns fan, trust me when I say that no matter how many steps forward you take, with the wrong guys stuck in the wrong places, a hundred steps forward don't matter much without the willingness to take the big step.

Browns fan, huh? My condolences.
I think the Giants are on the starting line of becoming respectable once again. They have a new GM, and he is the one who initiated yesterday's roster moves. Hopefully that was just a start. There is a lot of dead wood over there. Lots of lead footed, older players who need to sent on their way. I mean, Sam Madison! C'mon!
Then we'll have to see what kind of draft he puts together.
Hey, it could be worse, kedlav. We could be Raiders fans!

It's just that kind of thinking that made the Giants secondary the laughing stock of the NFL. Rumor has it Eli has asked to be traded to another NFC East team so he can go up against the Giants defensive backfield. I guess he figures it'll be an easy way to pad his stats.

If you want to feel better, watch a replay of the Bucs' '06 season. Their defense went for one of the best to one of the worst.

they should be cutting sam madison, he is mediocre AT BEST.

i hope we pick up a shut down corner like asanti samuel - i hope NE stays true to its cheap ways and we can snag him up.

That'd be great. . .but NE didn't become a model organization by letting quality like that get away.
In general, the Giants need an infusion of youth and speed. And while they're at it, can they finally admit that Tim Carter is not the answer at WR?!?!?

I like the moves, aside from Petitgout. I mean, he's part of the furniture! He also gets a crazy amount of penalties. I can live with it. I just hope this plan doesn't call for Wilkinson to start at linebacker. :)

Giants need to cut their entire secondary. It wasn't the linebackers that was a problem this year... that was last year.

Eli is a pretty decent QB.

I lol'ed at that statement too... it must really hurt to realize how much the Giants coughed up for him when they had a better QB for less.

NE became a great organization by finding great talent, and then cheaping out when they could make the big bucks and losing guys like branch, but then they had such a keen sense for personel that they did ok by finding new unknown players, plus they have had belichick and brady always.

the giants definitely need a #2 WR. carter, like you said, is not it. toomer is perhaps never to be the same guy again. sinorice moss is an unknown right now.

they need a new secondary, at least get rid of madison. mcquarters is not so great either, but madison is the weakest link.

hopefullyl they can pick up another LB like lance briggs, i know pierce was trying to convince him to come to big blue.

McQuarters is terrible! How many times have you seen touchdown passes right over his head? Or WR's streak by him and beat him by six yards? Madison and McQuarters are in the same boat the way I see it. They're both ok against mediocre players, but top WR's make them look silly. The whole secondary falls into that catagory IMO, except for Demps who has truned up his game in the last few games of the season. Pierce needs to stop playing GM already and start remembering how to stop the run. Too many guys went right up the gut and right through him this season.

As a Giants fan myself, I agree with a lot of what was said. The two LB's, to release them was fine. LP, that's another storty. He was a fixture and should have been retained. We definitely need a new secondary. Wilson and Webster are the best of the bunch and that's not saying a whole lot. I was happy when we got Demps, but he didn't play to great last year. Yes, Madison is too old and should be retired. He doesn't look like the hard hitter he was down in Miami.

Carter isn't a bad receiver, he's just not durable. So, we may need to start looking for another alternative. I'm starting to tire of the Eli experiment! He needs to show some dang emotion too! The lost of Tiki will probably be felt. Although, I do like Jacobs! I was hoping that Coughlin would have been terminated at the end of the season, but they extended that bum for a year! Go figure.

It's not looking pretty bright in the Big Blue Nation!

i know he isnt good, i was just pointing out that madison is the worst of the two. they got to at least get rid of him but getting rid of both would be nice.

I hate McQuarters. Madison is easily better.

Tyree is one of the best special teams guys in the game. They need to keep him.
