I just started playing NWN2 I am currently at the Inn with the dwarf, I play a cleric. Is there any way to get into the locked chests in the Inn? I don't have any points in open lock since it is a cross class skill. I thought in the original game you could just attempt to break the lock by hitting it with your weapon.

Which totally defeats the purpose of lock picking and may be why they dropped that feature.
OR....
Try clicking on your weapon and clicking on the chest. It may work.

You can attempt to bash open containers, but it carries the risk of destroying the item(s) inside.

I am confused as to how to defeat Zaaire though, she has some mean magic at her fingertips. Wipes my party out in one fell swoop.

Can someone tell me how to hotkey/quickbar dual weapons? One of the cooler features for NWN1 was that you could drag both primary and offhand to the same quickbar button. As a ranger, it would be insanely handy to be able to do this simple thing to change from bow to dual wield in a hurry.

To bash containers, doors, hold down the right mouse button, it will bring up the menu to 'bash'. You need to hold it down for a good .5 secs for the menu to come up. also, right clicking on your character and npcs brings up the menu to give orders, do special abilities, etc.... right click is your friend.

And as far as the story goes, starts out slow, quickly picks up! This is a great game so far, and reminds me more of BG2 than NWN1.

Does anyone know if the weapons/loot are randomly generated? I haven't gotten any good long/great swords. But have gotten a great morning star (+1 +1d6 fire), awesome great mace or what ever it's called (+2/+25% chance stun). My Paladin/Divine Champ is missing the blades..... Does anyone know what type of sword the Holy Avenger is that I'll be questing for (long/great)?

Unfortunately you can't, yet. it is being added in the next patch, supposedly.

And to bash, just hold in right click on an object, until the menu shows up, and pick bash. But as someone said, you now run the risk of destroying whatever is in the chest.

Another update by me, this time with some offline patch mirrors.

The Thread

1.00 to 1.01

1.01 to 1.02.809

whats the purpose of giving these links? how do you use them?

thanks

Uh . . . you click on the links to DL the patches and install them manually. You read the thread on the NWN2 for updates concerning the patches, how to install them, etc. Some people, particularly those on dialup, are having problems with the updater program. A manual download allows them to use a DL client to get the patch more reliably.

Any idea why i placed it in both the patch directory as well as the directory where the updater is located and its still downloading it instead of finding it in the directory and installing it?

thanks

You just put it in the neverwinter nights 2 folder, not any of the subfolders.

i did it didnt work

I have no idea then, since it worked fine for me.

put it in the NWN2 install folder .... no need to even extract it ... then run the auto updater - you must be connected to the 'net ... it will find the patch and install it [there was a 1.4 MB patch also last night ... it is up to 1.02.809

and what a resource hog ... it looks ok [i still say Oblivion is much nicer] but i had to disable Overdrive for my x850xt .... 114C is a little hot. 😛

I should get my copy soon, however from what I have read there's no international patch, only US version is available,if so I might play "Dark Messiah of Might and Magic "first.

Link about international patch ,not looking good for rest of the world for support at this time 🙁.

don't hold your breath ...
it took ten days to make a US patch that could be d/l'ed without the autoupdater

big resource hog ... each patch version seems to change 'something' 😛

I get this damn message when i try patching either manually or automatically. what should i do?

"reinstall NWN2 ... reinstall your OS ... make sure everything is up-to-date"

that's the usual advice on their forums 😛

i guess the "critical" patch is what you are looking for .... eventually

[i seriously wanted to return it ... but i finally got it to work ... not sure if it was worth it, anyway ... i think i need a GPU upgrade to x1950p]
:Q

You guys could also be having routing issues, you could use DMZ hosting to test if blocked ports are screwing up the patcher.

also what settings should i enable/disable for best performance?

I have everything maxed except for shadows (lowest), and both water features disabled, textures are medium.

Everything is maxed.

I noticed the memory footprint is pretty small so you shouldnt need 2GB of memory.

My rig:
A64 3000+ @ 2.7ghz
2GB PC3200
Geforce 6800GT
2x WD 2500JB in Raid 0
DFI Nforce 4 Ultra-D (worst northbridge position ever concieved by man)

what about your shadow texture amounts or whatever? i have them in the middle 2000 something i think. what resolution are you playing in?

somewhat similar specs [1GB PC3500/2.80c@3.31Ghz/x850xt] and similar settings [well, i am playing at 11x8 with 0-2xAA/4xAF]... i tried maxing everything ... worked for awhile

the H20 reflections [literally] KILL my x850xt ... i had to shut down OverDrive when it reached 114*C with a VPU recover and the fan screaming like a jet at takeoff [well, 😛] ... pretty, but not worth the possible damage. ... and nowhere as nice as FC [still, imo among the best water shaders]
