Well heck, if you're willing to work so hard for free, why waste hardware on ya?

You're right, I was. I had no idea that Rollo had an affiliation with AEG, and in good faith, I defended a friend.

I suppose you can say that you work in the video game industry if that makes you feel any better.

Shoe salesmen can't claim to have anything to do with the creation of Nike runners.

Obviously, again, you weren't there. Many game developers were in the room behind the gathering area where the presentations took place to show off the 7800 (in single card and SLi format) on their games. I was doing exactly that: showing off our games. If that makes me a marketing agent for my company, so be it. You might also want to note that it was a 50/50 thing about me attending the event: I wanted to go, and nVIDIA wanted me to showcase our products there.

If that's too difficult for you to understand, tough sh!t. I work for a much, MUCH larger company than nVIDIA.

So why don't you tell us exactly who you work for?

What is your job description?

What do you do in a typical day at work?

Is AEG bigger than nVidia?

Are you somehow affiliated with "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" program?

When you say "nVidia wanted me to showcase our products there", are you essentially admitting that you work either directly or indirectly for nVidia? It's confession time, you might as well own up.

I see, so you admit to trolling and trying to "piss off" ATi fans. Nice.

Either that or you were both AEG, both under NDA, and both sticking up for one another.

QFT. Same here.

And Rollo when did you become a member of this program? Wondering if this is another thing that got started in the NV30 days?

Ha! Whatever. Maybe more ATI "beta testers" will come out of the closet and admit their BS.

At least Rollo and other are being honest, what's your excuse nts? Or would you rather stay "in the closet"

Hang on...neither of those posts were directed at you, Wreckage. I think you've just proven that you're Rollo.

I'm much younger and better looking than Rollo :p

It's just the "holier than thou" attitude from the ATI fanboyz is nauseating :disgust:

AEG is some sort of marketing group that NVIDIA hired, along with Microsoft and others. ATI I'm sure does the same thing, heck I have seen some of their "beta testers" post BS on multiple forums.

I think AT should do what Hardocp did and drop the hammer on the BS posters and clean up this sh!t.

Yo, Sickbeast, back off dude. You're quite literally starting to turn this in to a witch-hunt here, and that's helping no one.

If Ronin says that Nvidia wanted to show off his products, it doesn't mean he's working for AEG at all. For all we know he's Tim Sweeney(the Unreal dev), and was asked to attend the presentation to show off the UE3 engine. There are many possible explanations for this kind of stuff, don't start jumping down peoples' throats so easily, it's unnecessary.

Here's the difference between viral marketing and being a beta tester:

A beta tester is given gear for the sole purpose of testing, stressing and debugging a product and reporting back to the company who makes it so that they can improve the beta product. They're given free product to give feedback based on their expertise.

A viral marketer is given free product in exchange for promoting that product to their peers, usually with the understanding that they don't represent the fact that they got the product for free or are in any way affiliated with a viral marketing campaign paid for by the company that manufacturers the product. Viral marketing does not work if the person acknowledges that the product was given to them in exchange for promotion, which is why it's being used nowadays since most consumers don't buy the marketing crap most corporations are spewing.

For example, I regularly get product from MSI, AMD, AOpen, WD, Antec, etc at work for the express purpose of building demos or gaining hands on experience with their products. However, since my employer has a somewhat strict ethics & gift policy, these products remain their property and I'm not at liberty to take them home (and I sorely wish the work rig was at home and not at work). This is to prevent any manufacturer from exerting undo influence over an employee who should not be motivated to sell, promote or recommend any product because he/she received free samples. Those items I did get for free are usually have a small monetary value (for IRS and ethics reasons) which would doubtfully cause me to endorse them soley because I got them for free. i.e. my razer copperhead and eXactpad. Even when I've posted why I like them, i'll tend to acknowledge that if I had to pay for them my opinion may be altered since a $50 mouse is a bit much :D

So I have a problem with AEG and their affiliates covertly touting Nvidia's products in exchange for free cards. Honestly, while you might not be "paid" in cash terms - a $500+ video card several times a year isn't chump change.

And what's more is most of them have denied it, claimed they purchased the product(s), and have planted posts to discredit rival companies, sought to ban rival company "fanboys".

Not once have I seen any of those posts that were supposedly made "because gee...the product is so much better I had no choice but to recommend it even though it costs more than a complete system" mention that maybe they wouldn't be so enthusiastic if they had to pay the $700 for a 7800GTX 512 that was extremely hard to find, let alone purchase.

And don't think you were harmless. There's hundreds of posts a day by members in GH asking what upgrade to get, to validate their system or asking for advice that would probably swallow the recommendation of the AEG shills because the shill can speak the jargon or has abit more knowledge about VGA technology.

Glad you're all outted...can we get a ban?

apoppin, Crazyfool was apparently wrong assuming that people couldn't purchase cards at the 7800 launch and Ronin corrected him (albeit, a bit harshly). I don't see Ronin's statement as any sort of AEG endorsement.

Ronin is as "nVidia" as Rollo is. He pimps their HW for free stuff although he claims to be unbiased and moderates a pro-nVidia forum. Although to be fair, he never hid his free HW or appeared to know Rollo was AEG . . . who really knows . . . they were/are friends.

In the post just before Ronin's, i said Rollo had no defenders . . . THEN Ronin posted and i made my comment about "ONE defender"

get it?

ANYway, Ronin cleared nothing up [as usual] . . . we still don't know if Rollo paid for his cards or got them free - we just know cards are available for sale there.

In theory I would agree, however this could be a matter of semantics.

If the "beta tester" program of a certain company also promotes viral marketing what's the difference?

Pot, kettle, black.

I'm still waiting for an excuse from the ATI fanboys.

I was referring to AT genius. As for HardOCP, my temp ban had nothing to do with trolling. It was for posting OT in a vid thread with another guy about wiping our ass with $600. :D Long story.

From the sounds of it he's a marketing agent. I've been on these boards for ages and have read many of Ronin's posts.

Rollo claimed to be a programmer. We all know how that panned out.

This guy claimed to be some kind of game developer. Does Tim Sweeney go to graphics card launches? I doubt it. Maybe E3, but definately not a GeForce launch.

I have no qualms in stating that I'm an architect doing urban design for a number of large retail franchises. He, OTOH, leaves things convoluted and shows us pictures of 5 GF7800GTX 512mb cards to make it look like he's a big shot, all the while never admitting to what he does for a living. I just don't buy any of it.

On top of that, why would Tim Sweeney have an nVidia bias? I suppose Carmack does. IMO Ronin would more likely be Carmack than sweeney, but they're both extreme long shots IMO. :)

The following is a fictional story and any relation to any real person is purely coincidental. Excerpt from Chapter 12 of my fictional story Las Vegas Casino.

Ronine: You might regret this, Krazy Dingo.

Krazy Dingo: I'll regret it even more if I keep you on.

Ronine: This is not the way to treat people.

Krazy Dingo: Listen, if you didn't know you're being' scammed, you're too ******' dumb to keep this job. If you did know, you were in on it. Either way, you're out. Get out! Go on.

It's either a beta program or a viral marketing program. A viral marketing program that offers hardware that'll crash a lot. =)

There was nothing to clear up as far as Rollo's concerned. I debunked the wrong assumption that you couldn't buy the 7800's at the launch, when in fact you could (and several of the 200 or so people there did).
