nVidia is in damage-recovery mode:

EIDOS Interactive, the publisher for Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness issued a patch a couple of weeks ago for the game which happened to include a way to use the game as a DX9 benchmark. Since it shows NVIDIA hardware performing slower than ATI, EIDOS has pulled it down. Remember, this is a "Way it's meant to be played" game, which means NVIDIA has paid EIDOS marketing money. Here's a bs statement from EIDOS Europe:

It has come to the attention of Eidos that an unreleased patch for Tomb Raider: AOD has unfortunately been used as the basis for videocard benchmarking. While Eidos and Core appreciate the need for modern benchmarking software that utilizes the advanced shading capabilities of modern graphics hardware, Tomb Raider: AOD Patch 49 was never intended for public release and is not a basis for valid benchmarking comparisons. Core and Eidos believe that Tomb Raider: AOD performs exceptionally well on NVIDIA hardware. - Paul Baldwin, Eidos

ROFL!

Edit: Next thing you know, nVidia will start suing review sites for using this benchmark. NVDA is starting to look desperate.

True, unless 30.x series drivers are used.

I do think this should be made into a sticky to make a point of how bad a company can get .... or will this post "disappear" too

On a serious note, general joe public deserves the right to know whether a $500 card can cut it or not.

Yeah in less then a week Nvidia went from "so so" to "down the §hitter" :Q
This latest report is just more egg into Nvidias face. They are being backed into a corner very nicely and are starting to lash out. Not unexpectadely but still amusing to watch. Just hope for them that they get the NV40 on track ASAP where they have hopefully corrected their mistakes, I have come to like the competition in the graphics card arena.

I'm not surprised, remember that this company is run by "suits" just like anywhere else... Pll tend to hate on Nvidia thinking that its a bunch of engineers and driver developers that is at the heart of the problem, but the executives are in my opnion just as responsible, even more so. Taking that into consideration who do you really think sent that rapport to Edios, the engineers are too busy polishing up their resumes and the driver developers are doing the best with what they have. I mentioned this before in a different thread: The begining of the end was when Nvidia decided to take 3dFX philosophy where image quality and functionality is second fiddle to raw speed.

Anyways even if they do go down the hole I will always have my fond memories of my Ye Oldie Gainward POWERPACK!!! (I'm not kidding that was the official name) GeForce 3 (old-school not that Ti BS) that lasted me two years and I still managed to sell-off for $50...

I still have good memories of Nivida and hope they stick around, I mean whats are options? Trident???
