That just means your expectations are too high.
My personal systems are still running decent 8-series NVIDIA GPUs, and I'm able to play everything I want to play, smoothly and at full resolution. All eye candy turned up? I don't know, and I don't even care to check. Games look fine and run smooth, which is 'nuff for me.
Don't get me wrong. I really WANT to upgrade*. However, if/when I upgrade, it is because I want to, not need too.
*I want to swap out my 8800 GT on my main rig for a 9800 GTX+ and retain passive cooling. I figure the GTX+ is the highest end card that can reasonably be passively cooled. For my gaming rig, maybe a GTX 2XX card of some kind to replace the 8800 GTX G92. For my HTPC... don't know yet, but there's got to be something better than the Radeon HD 2600 Pro that fits into a somewhat slim case and with near passive cooling.
