A few things make more sense now.
HP has what i'd call a soft recall out on various models of their notebooks.
I don't remember all the models, but it involves the dv3000, 6000, & 9000 series, plus a few more.
There are various symptoms that quality for repair within 2 yrs. (even after the 1 yr. is expired)
But the common theme is that every one has an AMD CPU, uses an nVidia chipset, & the repair involves replacing the motherboard.
The most common issue is that the notebook will cease to POST.
I'd like to say it's uncommon, but it's not...happens a lot actually.
I suspect HP screamed pretty loudly to nVidia lately, as this has been going on for quite a while now actually.
