Nvidia set to launch Pascal GP102 based "mining only" card

So it looks like this will be a "1080ti - lite", no video out card, based on the GP102-100 chip.
Apparently this is not the first mining only card (Previously companies made a GP106-100 and GP104-100 mining cards), but this is the first one made off the 1080TI. 1st card shown is being produced by Inno3D, but other partners will surely follow on.

Only uses PCIE 4x bandwidth, but takes up an entire 16x slot.

Well I'm not sure if this is contributing to the video card shortage, or supposed to help alleviate it.
The no second-hand nature of this card (it doesnt do video out) makes me wonder if anyone will even buy it, especially if it is priced equally or more than the 1080ti currently is...

it doesnt seem to have any advantage over the 1080TI and has several disadvantages...
(no video out, less cuda core processors, smaller memory, less bandwidth, same power requirements, same thermal requirements)
it would have to be ~20% cheaper for people to even consider this, IMO.

It's just a way to use gpu dies that weren't good enough for the 1080Ti. Normally Nvidia would just have thrown away these dies. But over 1 year they collected enough to now use them as a cheaper mining product than the 1080Ti. It will only be available short time, as they won't cut down good working gp102 dies to these specifications.

Seems like a clever way for NVidia to loosen supply of GPUs without putting themselves at risk from a mining crash. They can reuse failed GP102 chips with defects in the memory controller, CU arrays, or PCIe controller, slap on some cheap low-capacity DRAM chips, and sell it at a significantly reduced price compared to the real 1080ti. They don't actually need to run more wafers at the foundries, they can just plunder their rejects bin. And then if there's another mining crash, this card is useless to gamers, so the market won't get flooded with loads of second hand gaming cards- NVidia won't get "Hawaii'd".

unless its way cheaper than a normal graphics board, no way I'd buy a mining only chip and lose almost 100% of the salvage value if I want to exit mining.
