While we're on the subject, there is enough hype around 5xxx that they will probably be in short supply for a while after launch. The problem with this is that it's hard to tell if it's a "paper" launch or if there are just too many people snapping up the tens of thousands of units that were just waiting to be bought.

My understanding is that nda lifts around sept 24 and they go on sale that day. Is that correct?

It doesn't really matter what you call it, it's all hype with no actual product. Shaq hit the nail on the head IMO.

See, this is what happens when they hype us all up, and then don't actually launch anything. We end up bickering about other stuff. Damit, don't NVIDIA and ATI know that we need some benchmarks to argue about!?!

 Agreed. Just angst here over sept 10 coming and going with no stealth launch (even benchmark leak launch) by NV and nothing but eyefinity from AMD. Yawn. We need some real meat here people, lest we go all Donner party on ourselves...

Here's nVidia's response:
"In response, Nvidia said in a statement, ?The gaming world has moved to dynamic realism, which depicts actual physical movement more realistically than ever before. For example, the No. 1 PC game coming out next week is ?Batman: Arkham Assyum,? which takes advantage of graphics plus physics to give it extraordinary realism. Because we support GPU-accelerated physics, our $129 card that?s shipping today is faster than their new RV870 (code name for new AMD chips) that sells for $399.??

Is that their response to RV870 (ie. "but..but...PHYSX!!!!!")?? And their statement is true ONLY if you turn PhysX on :). I'd much rather them just give us hints about GT300.

lol NV.

They are in a hard-spot though, if they talk down ATI by being nice and merely keep to talking up their own products then they walk a tight-rope of not vilifying their own currently selling products should they decide to hype their nex-gen chips.

The best defense is a good offense, but unfortunately the offense is still in the fab at sidewall spacer dep for the moment so the next strategy in the playbook is evasive maneuvers

Let's at least have a good laugh and enjoy the spectacle, its not our job on the line after all, but you can bet the stress level at NV is raised a tad right now and that can't be all that fun for them.

Yeah I don't want any nV employees to lose their jobs but I prefer companies to speak with actions (although that is not always easiest thing to do) so hopefully they can pull another rabbit out of the hat like they did with G80 with much stiffer competition this time.

Hahaha

So they block ATi out of using nV cards as PhysX add-on cards and now they say their cards are so much better? Well yeah, they blocked the competition artificially! Pathetic :D

This is the worst imaginable statement that could come from nVidia... They might as well say "we're better cause our name starts with N" or "we're better cause we're green and everybody knows green is better than red". At least we had something shown from AMD... With a bigger event on the 24th. All we got from nVidia is a laughable statement. Ohh well...

On topic: I just want to see what happens if Intel Larrabee is good and they decide to pull an nVidia by barring nVidia cards to work on their processors.

AMD can't really counter attack nVidia atm because they haven't a big enough gun, and so not allowing nVidia cards to work on their processors would be negligible to nVidia.

By the time larrabee is good enough to compete with the top nvidia/ati processors of today, the green and red team will be 3 generations + advanced. Intel has a lot of money to throw at this, but it is not unlimited. In fact, I think that they'll end up regretting NOT overpaying for ati the amd did. Think about it, with where ati is today intel could literally shut nvidia out completely, or, even better, charge them 2 arms and a leg for licensing fees to be able to work on intel rigs. They would have ALL the cards. Instead, they're trying to build an entirely new gpu concept from the ground up and throwing billions of $$ at it. The only difference in the Billions is the timing, amd paid it years ago and is reaping the reward now, intel should have paid it years ago and is paying the price now. Of course, if ati continues to bust out the whoop ass on nvidia they (nvidia) might lose so much market cap that intel could initiate a hostile takeover for pennies on the dollar...

Well, not really on topic but near enough...According to S/As NV Roadmap we might be waiting way longer for such an Event than most hoped, or in case of FUDspreading not. Well i can see the "price-war" going down the drain...

What's a GTX280 with 1792MB ? The highest performance single GPU is GTX285 and that has either 1GB or 2GB of RAM... But he does state GTX280 below... I guess that's a GTX295 but I'm pretty sure nVidia wouldn't really mix it up on their own roadmaps :D Those 'leaks' look so fake and are full of fail :D

I got a "it's not semi-accurate, it's total bullshit" thought reading that :D

Well i can just quote
Originally posted by: CharlieOK. The roadmaps I saw said GTX280, but the code names say 55nm. From that I would say that the parts are 55nm GT200b based, possibly with a little speed bump. NV has to do something, depending on where the clocks end up (I don't actually know the final clock FWIW, just hopes of where they would be), Juniper will be right on top of GT200b cards.
