nVidia schedules an event on the same day as ATI's Evergreen launch?

I can see it being a challenge for the one-man operations like semi-accurate and BSN but for any semi-moderate sized media company or design company surely they are operating with a deep enough bench that they can field two personnel to industry-related events that occur on the same day?

I wonder what kind of info they go over at an editors day? I would imagine most tech journalists would rather be at a new product launch, unless Nvidia has some big news to share.

Lol whatever nvidia says they are just trying to rain on ATI's parade. Still, it means we get to have a lot of reading on sept 10

I went to Editors Day last year. It coincided with the GT200 series launch.

Is this confirmed by anyone else? Why would you plan an event to try to steal your competitor's thunder, and then not make a public announcement or put it on your calendar?

http://www.nvidia.com/page/events.html

Besides, isn't nine days a little short notice for this type of thing?

Ummm....ATI has done the same. There was a time they were flying people to their press event in some nice vacation location. Someone who wasn't a press person also got accepted but I don't know if he ever followed through with it. It is like politics. It is only immoral when your opponent does it.

Maybe they are officially going to announce the GT300 cards and give some info. It doesn't look like they have parts yet, but maybe they'll do some sort of announcement of the future GT300 parts to try and entice potential video card buyers to wait for their parts even though they're going to launched some time later than AMD's. That's kind of what Nvidia did with the 9800GTX+ and the GTX260 216 after the 4850 and 4870 launched.

It would be freakin' hilarious if nvidia pulled another rabbit out of their hat and actually launched at the same time. Something tells me that they would be a bit smarter with their pricing this time around, too.

I doubt they are, however. They're just following good business protocol and attempting to rain on the other guy's parade, hoping that they can convince their loyalists (of whom there are many) to wait "just a little bit longer". AMD tried this with 2900xt and alienated much of their hard-earned fanbase in the process.

Who cares? AMD named their processors the exact same as i7 to try and confuse people. They arent above marketing tricks.

None of that makes a difference as to how the cards perform when you plug them in and load a game.

It would be something, wouldn't it?

P.S. Do you really, really need to have that quote in your sig?

They do it every single time, and I think its pretty lame

Your opponent is launching something new, let them have their moment and later youll have yours, no need to be a party pooper

These companies need some "fair play" :p

So then both companies do it? I'm astonished!! :)

Exactly which card was it that ATI deliberately changed the release date on to coincide with a planned Nvidia launch? I can't recall it off the top of my head and can't seem to find it doing a web search.

I think they are running out of variants to release. Likely they will release paper promises and back that up with a major viral campaign. Won't make any money for nvidia - so they can only hope to slow sales of the new ati cards. Tough times for gpu makers.

ATI's launch in September is going to be very interesting and might raise questions about Nvidia's ability to compete against ATI's DX11 video cards. I hope Nvidia can compete or there will be no reason for ATI to keep the prices down which as a consumer will be bad. :(

Maybe Nvidia are going to release GDDR5 versions of their current video cards to give them a speed boost!

Exactly what release date was there that was deliberately changed? Did we have an official release date? Do we now?

Anyway: BryanW1995: "They're just following good business protocol and attempting to rain on the other guy's parade, hoping that they can convince their loyalists (of whom there are many) to wait "just a little bit longer". We are talking about stealing another company's thunder. Don't restrict it to just changing a launch date. There are announcements, paper launches, delays, dates pushed back, etc.

How does this raise the question? The simple act of ATI releasing a card raises the question of whether or not Nvidia can compete against DX11? I don't get it.

Might be more so that AMD got its DX11 parts out the door much earlier, signifying NVIDIA is having trouble that AMD isn't.

I don't see why anyone would care that Nvidia is doing this... it seems to be something they do regularly. I'm just curious what they're going to have to say at the event. My guess is they'll say, "We don't have anything at all right now... but we will have something so you should wait before buying that AMD card." Or at least something along those lines.

What rule is there that ,v has to launch at the same time as AMD? I seriously don't understand this line of thinking guys.
