Weird... Charlie writes an article without even the slightest nVidia badmouthing innuendo and Fuad is writing an article doubting of nVidia officials' words... where is the world headed? ;)

One of the greatest arguments to support this claim is the fact that despite ATI’s winning hardware, the red chip giant doesn’t really have any chips to sell. This leaves gamers and enthusiasts who want to buy Radeon HD 58x0 and Radeon HD 5970 cards stuck with facing an extreme supply shortage that likely won’t go away for at least a few more weeks if not even months.

ATI really missed a golden opportunity.

Jes. This is so much like NV quarterly results. Sometimes I am stunned at everyone missing the true big picture . I can munipulate numbers easy in my favor . Simple by not having the foundries produce more chips and let inventories run down . Thats exactly what happened . Inventory reduction and holding off on new fab orders to window dress a problem . Next qt will expose the trueth.

I can understand saying things are going well, but to say "things have never been better" is just silly

They seem to have plenty of stock at this point. I don't know how they did on black friday, but every 5XXX series card is in stock on newegg, except for the 5970. Can't say they're really hurting right now.

Finally! Only if they could bring the price back down a bit...

I also see everyone now has stock. I wonder if the fab issues are getting fixed or if Dell has all of what they need for a while.

I'm still dissapointed at the price there at.

Nvidia forecasted for this qtr. If memory serves me correct it was a slight bump in revenues with a slight decrease in margin. Do people really believe a high end part from AMD thatis in short supply due to manufacturing issues will have a huge impact on Nvidia? High end parts are often outsold 300:1 by sub 100 dollar parts.

What truth is that? You think Nvidia was lying to investors in their last conference call when they gave a forecast? Reducing inventory makes good business sense. It isnt some mythical manipulation.

On the flip side, just a few days ago Faud reported that some Nvidia partners are in trouble and may go out of business due to no high end (though I can't imagine that one quarter of no high end parts would doom one of these businesses unless they've been having problems since before the AMD 58x0 launch).

One bad quarter, or even two bad quarters, should not be able to sink a company unless it was already on shaky ground. nVidia sales are still good but with a higher supply of Radeon 5xxx video cards nVidia should see a drop in sales. How much is a big question. The Radeon 5xxx supply is suppose to have risen from "thousands a week" to "tens of thousands a week" in availability.

You guys don't seem to understand high end gamers are maybe 5% of the market. Most gamers are ok with average video cards. Some try for above average. Only the very rare go for cutting edge cards especially.

You can tell this much by comparing say the numbers of GTX260 sold vs GTX 285's or 295's.

Granted I haven't compared this to ATI but the same thing will apply.. a 4890 will sell lots more till 5850 is at its price but it eventually will outsell a 5870 and 5970.

High end maybe a small chunk of the market but the margins are higher meaning they make up a larger size of the pie than at first glance.

because of the chip shortage? I think this is hardly in their control

The opportunity they missed was to price the cards in the $500-600 range. I'm not even kidding, at the prices and supply after the launch stock ran out they were just buying the goodwill of retailers and ebayers.

They've still got at least 2 more months of "opportunity" left so I don't think the shortage is going to matter much in the end.

No genX87 I never said that or implied that. Reducing inventory and not reordering until the next Qt . Supply isn't new . Its is manipilation however. It makes good business sense I would normally agree. IF you have a better part to sell in the next Qt. But if you don't than you have to resupply from the Fab for next qt . Which = Higher cost for that qt . If nv would have had Fermi ready for this qt . It was a brillant move. But without Fermi in this qt. NV needs new stock to sell . Rebranding is really starting to piss people off . Now if NV brings out a DX10.1 part it had better beable to do ALL the DX10.1 spec . or we will eat them for breakfast . This isn't about you or I its about frauding the consumer which is exactly what NV has been doing.

Lets get that rebadged Dx10.1 part out so we can see if it is truely Dx10.1 compatable . They were going to try to release it sooner if you remember but it was not complinant and I doubt it will be this time . Just let us have the card and we will put NV balls in a vice a squeese till they beg for mercy. FACT!

Now I here so much about Arm and NV with tegra. It sickens me. Hows about ARM and Imagination tech on SoC or Apple and Imagination tech in 2010 or the other which I am not at liberty to discuss. Tegra is out gunned in 2010 bigtime.

I dont see the connection between having a new part ready and reducing an excessive inventory. Nvidia needed to from a business perspective reduce their inventory regardless of what their roadmap was showing.

Lets get that rebadged Dx10.1 part out so we can see if it is truely Dx10.1 compatable . They were going to try to release it sooner if you remember but it was not complinant and I doubt it will be this time . Who cares, honestly? The mainstream will continue to buy their cards and Nvidia will continue to do fine until otherwise.

Nvidia is pathetic with all these petty lies and distortions, seriously.

How so? Right now I see a bunch of 5870 and 5850s up on Newegg. Availability seems to have balanced with demand. Can't say the same for the 5970s yet though.

They seem to have good availability now, but for a good month there was very little, if they had the supply to keep up then they could have made a lot more
