You guys don't seem to understand high end gamers are maybe 5% of the market. Most gamers are ok with average video cards. Some try for above average. Only the very rare go for cutting edge cards especially.

Yep I bet NVIDIA is selling those new GT220's and 240's at 10x the rate of the 5xxx series.

They seem to have good availability now, but for a good month there was very little, if they had the supply to keep up then they could have made a lot more

I realize that, but their competitor still currently has no answer to the 5xxx series. If Nvidia did release new product when people were scrambling to find cards, then yes, that would've been a missed opportunity. Fast forward to today and nothing has changed, aside from the fact more supply is coming in. People who want a card can easily buy one now, or wait months for Nvidia's answer.

This

If anything the Fermi picture is more bleak now than it was when 5xxx was released. Back then some even were saying a Fermi release before Christmas was a possibility. Now they are saying March if everything goes perfectly. Thats at least another 2.5 months of ATI being the only game in town and they don't seem to have any more supply constraints.

Enthusiasts might play the waiting game. But OEMs however will not.

Given the market segment, the focus of the products, and the supply problems for the HD58xx he is probably correct.
If you consider the HD57xx then it's not so clear cut, but NV's 40nm mainstream parts will be vastly outselling at least the HD58xx cards.
That's just the way market segmentation works. And if you take into account the historical 67/33 split between AMD and NV that was the case earlier in the year (and adjust it to say 60/40 in NV favour if AMD have increased share) then NV should still be shipping in terms of number of cards a lot more, that doesn't necessarily translate to 10x more revenue or profit though.

Mainstream and Performance are the largest segments by revenue, and enthusiast (which I assume the HD58xx is classed as) is quite small in comparison.
It all depends on how good the HD57xx cards are selling.

For its price its pretty much flying off the shelves, something that NV cannot claim about their 2-3 years old architecture - the one that drives these 'things have never been better' sales, ROFLAMO...

I told you numerous times: NV is a lying piece of crap company, it's been proven numerous times ( insider scandals, bechmark manipulations in drivers, mobster-pressuring of Futuremark etc etc etc.)
Unscrupulous lying sack of..., I don't believe a single word until I see their next 10Q or 10K.

ATI's old founder, Ho had simialr problems but he's out for long time now... time to oust Huang?

ATi has a long way to go before it gains the larger market share. nVidia's brand name keeps people buying it even if they're behind in technology. Fermi will come out on time to save them but in the long run nVidia is in trouble.
