The new high bandwidth bridge is only compatible with nvidia GTX 1000 series, and can not be used on the 900 series. And is already in use in the listed SLI benchmarks posted above.

No, they specifically state that they used the old bridges on the 1080SLI test.

In the end, we used a couple of bridges that shipped with MSI’s new X99A Gaming Pro Carbon motherboard to get an idea of what sort of performance to expect from two of these monster cards in SLI. Bearing in mind that performance could very well be better if used with the proper bridges, here’s a look at some of the figures we obtained.

I said nothing at all about those ancient 980ti cards. 😀

I would like to share something too. According to Chiphell user divx001 Geforce GTX 1060 delivers 68-70% the performance of Geforce GTX 1070 in the chart below. It's a 192-bit 6GB GDDR5 VGA, 90-100W and should cost between $249-279.

So GP102 is now as officially confirmed as it will be until Nvidia shows it up to its release 🙂

And GP106, holy Hammer of Graz! That's a magic card.

I don't know if any others are in a similar position, but I'm either looking at the hydro copper (evga) (if it has 8 pin and 6 pin power) or, man, I'm just going to wait for the Ti/Titan.

The GTX 980 Ti Phoenix series will soon be joined by a younger brother, as custom edition of the GTX 1080 will be added to the lineup. Gainward has completely changed its design of Phoenix cooling and it no longer has three fans, but two. Those fans are quite large, which made this card slightly wider, but it will deliver better airflow at lower RPM, so it should be quieter than any blower-type cooler.

The EVGA ACX in the picture has dual connectors, but it's not clear how many pins they use.

The issue isn't power cables anyway, it's board power. The 110% power cap that nvidia imposes on all cards has been an issue for generations. My 970, 980, and 980 Ti all hit it, and so did my reference 780 Ti. Aftermarket cards can lift that limit... I've seen 124%, and I'm sure it can go higher. One 8-pin is good for 225W with PCIe power. That should be plenty to stabilize clocks if users are allowed to tap it. 180W * 124% = 223W. Nvidia is only allowing 198W on the FE.
 
Where did you see this? I read a review that said their FE was allowed to go up to 125% or 225W.
With appropriate cooling & close to extreme OC, like 2.1~2.5GHz possibly on water, the power consumption would grow even further. Nvidia cannot control the power FE draws from the system, they can only set the TDP & 8pin for the reference edition.
