Nvidia Kepler performance driver fix released.

Hope the fix comes soon, i used to have 42 fps in witcher 3 with my 780 TI 1440p with the most fps hungry setting turned to high and hairworks off, now i have 35 fps with dips to 28! after the 1.04 patch 🙁 Feels like my 780 TI is some mid range 1080p card now....Im sad.

There is no way anyone could have predicted the present situation with regards to Kepler falling behind when compared to the competition. No one should blame themselves. You wanted the best and got it. Simple.

How do you grow revenue in a static to declining market?

1) Lower costs [cannot comment, no info]
2) Increase ASP [this is happening for a while]
3) Encourage more rapid turnover. [A glimpse of the future?]

What I think we have here is a small glimpse into a possible future where 1 supplier exists. I can't begin to understand why some want AMD to die. I will slant my purchases towards AMD if possible and its a fairly easy decision because of the generally better performance/$ ratio. Having said that, my last card was GTX760 during the mining boom. If the two manufacturers can settle at 60:40 either way, I would be pleased, as that allows technical advancement and no gouging by either one.

I have to admit, I was really annoyed seeing my 780 ti benchmarked to the performance of a 960. The updates made to the Witcher by the developer have really helped, though. Along with pushing my overclock even further. I do hope Nvidia gets this fixed ASAP though. Makes me question buying another Nvidia card when they can cast aside their previous generation card owners that paid $730.

Nvidia has just been leaving a bitter taste in my mouth more and more.

This. I was quite annoyed to find out that my Kepler cards had their desktop color precision reduced, just because they were plugged into a 1080P monitor using HDMI. I guess I had wondered why my relatively ancient ATI HD4850 cards, using a DVI-to-HDMI adapter, were just SO much more vibrant and colorful.

I was also very disappointed in Kepler's compute abilities. I had 4x cards (384 CC each) in one rig, running FAH, and they couldn't compare to the output in PPD of a single R7 260X card.

Edit: I'm relieved that I bought a pair of 7950 3GB cards for my gaming rigs, rather than a pair of 970s. I would have been hella pissed, if I found out that only 3.5GB of VRAM was usable by games, and not only that, that those cards require game-specific driver optimization to avoid VRAM slowdown situations.

Looking forward to seeing what 14/16nm GPUs can bring to the table.

Edit: For those doing the math, in FAH, 1536 Kepler CCs were underperforming 896 GCN 1.1 cores. By nearly half. Granted, the 260X had a single pool of 1GB GDDR5, as opposed to four pools of DDR3.

I'm told that I cannot discuss this warning openly. How do I contact you to challenge this as I believe Nvidia possible intentions are relevant to a Kepler fix.

I am glad that Nvidia is going to fix this soon, but I am concerned about the future. What about old GPUs and new less popular games than Witcher 3? I hope Nvidia learnt something from this. I will certainly remember how Nvidia treated / treats Kepler next time I am buying a GPU. Still not too late yet though.

Nvidia not fixing kepler (if 'fixable' and not due to arch/design limitations), is first and foremost a huge setback.... to THEM. They would be dumb not to realize that disgruntled kepler owners would simply just not buy Nvidia anymore. Although as a happy Maxwell owner (with a kepler in another machine), I view this seriously and it may just push me to AMD for my next GPU.

Fixed with a driver update. But yeah, they sure took their sweet time on it.

I had the same problem but chalked it up to Nvidia doesn't look quite as vibrant. Which is a hold over from the analog days I have no idea why I correlated that an HDMI output. I forgot to think. :| Anyway my 970 is/was supposed to be an upper end card but it is starting to feel like a mid range-ish or lower GPU. I'm not terribly bothered by it but if it was my only/primary card I would not be happy.

970 is midrange. We know this by its codename of gm204 And as a typical midrange it performs slightly better than last gen flagship GK110.

It doesn't matter what nvidia calls x80 anymore. they make the chip position clear by the codename.

paying attention to codenames would have told your wallet that a 970 is midrange and hence to hold off if you weren't interested in midrange performance

750ti is maxwell 1.0. I would think some of the optimizations apply yes but maybe not all. Not enough performance to matter in this game anyway though would be my guess

For certain games a Maxwell boost may be a difference-maker, such as at some lower settings for Project CARS. But if Maxwell 1.0 is lumped with Kepler that would kinda suck.

750ti is still available for sale and IS maxwell so it would make sense that it would still be getting optimized drivers.

He only stated they found a couple issues. Not that these fixes would make any notable improvements. I bet they could find a lot of issues in every driver if they dissected it.

If you fix bugs in a driver ,does that usually mean better performance? WHere I come from it USUALLY does. Don't shoot the messenger.🙂

If they are major issues, yes. If they are mild issues, you may not notice anything.

You see driver updates all the time where they fixed something and tell people may see up to 10% improvements, and in benchmarks you see a 1% boost.

I can't find a good link right now, but some site recently was talking DX 12 and feature levels and the 750 Ti was being discussed. It was said that it may be called Maxwell, but in reality the 750 Ti has the same DX 11 feature level as Kepler. In terms of architecture it's just an improved Kepler. The 960/970/980 Maxwell gpus are in a different category by themselves.

I think NV is going to try to fix the performance in TW3 and Project CARS because that has been the main complaint from that GeForce thread where NV Kepler users got really ticked off.

As far as 750/750Ti Maxwell 1.0 cards go, the performance optimizations for them hardly matter as they are very slow. Even if a driver improves their performance 5-10%, it's still slow.

For cards like 680/770/780/780Ti/OG Titan, it makes a lot more sense that NV spends time helping those owners because most of the gamers who got these cards didn't pay $100-150 for them with the expectation that the card was low-end to start with like the 750Ti was. If NV optimizes drivers better for Kepler over the next 18 months, a lot of those gamers can hold out until Pascal. I presume the gamers the reason the gamers are up in arms over this is because they didn't exactly plan on getting Maxwell cards this round or otherwise they would have just sold their Kepler cards and gotten Maxwell. They are understandably upset since they likely desired to use these cards for a bit longer.

Kepler is very strong in games that NV doesn't sponsor and is only under-performing in games that NV is actively involved in development. You can draw your own conclusions.
