Nvidia have announced GeForce GTX Holiday Bundle

Shield was just an effort to sell more Tegra 4 chips as Nvidia had very few high volume and high profile tablet or smartphone wins. Nvidia lost the Gooogle Nexus 7 to Qualcomm and were losing money heavily with the Tegra division. $100 off on a Shield is a 33% discount on a product which started selling 3 months ago. Even this cannot save Tegra 4 or Shield. But still Nvidia sure are being made to eat humble pie.

Sad part is, I would've bought Shield if it was designed right. The specs are good.

It should've been laid out like the Archos GamePad or the Wikipad. That way you can still reasonably use the touch interface.

The Shield, and I'm sure Nvidia knew this as well, is a massively niche product. The technology behind it is interesting though. Valve might be piggy backing on that with their SteamBox (hence why the beta devices have Nvidia hardware) and working out a GPU agnostic solution in the mean time.

The Shield didn't have to be a niche product though. It would've been a great Android gaming machine as well, if it had a more ergonomic form factor.

I'm confused. Is this based off of personal use? I can't recall reading anything negative about the ergonomics in any review. I fully intend on buying one for $200; beats the hell out of trying to game with a laptop on the couch.

The streaming tech is cool, and I'd love to see a GPU agnostic version. But there's no reason why it requires a hot, power hungry Tegra 4 to drive it. My Wii U can handle streamed games with a tiny SoC- all it takes is a wifi connection, a fixed function h264 decoder, and some rubbish little single core ARM CPU to run the whole thing. The Shield was badly designed, and too expensive for a streaming widget.

Question, or maybe this isn't the forum to ask it in. I plan on buying Batman anyway at full price, so would any of these be a decent upgrade for the $ coming from a 570? Or would I still be better off buying Batman separate and switching sides? Getting ACIV would actually be nice too, but I wasn't planning on buying that at full price. I've looked at the free game options currently included on the AMD side and I already own the ones I'd be intersted in.

I guess I'm just trying to understand how much the prices aren't matching up as I haven't been following the newest video cards lately.

finally some good games. thing I hate is getting these games for free will still cost quite a bit with the inevitable dlc. even though I want these games I would probably sell them while they are hot and just wait for deluxe or full version down the road. yes I am a tightwad plus I have a 50 game back log...grr

and the Shield code will probably worthless. lol

The best way to answer that would be to ask yourself a few simple questions.

1. Are modern games running at an FPS you are reasonably happy with on your GTX570?
2. Are you happy to reduce graphical settings to increase FPS?

If the answer is yes to either or both then don't upgrade. If it is no both then it's time for an upgrade. Get whatever suits your budget, though to be honest a GTX770 is a very poor purchase right now but on the other hand the games bundled are games you want.

I foresee a lot of shield coupons being sold on forum classified sections with nobody buying them. Shield is and always will be a joke, along with all things android gaming (unless you want a simple smartphone game).

That said - I, like you, definitely like that bundle. Although there's a good chance I would hang on to them if I were buying such a GPU - Batman: origins would be tempting. Kudos to NV for this. Hopefully followed by slight price cuts.

You can get an Android TV dongle for streaming duties for ~$60 and use it with your phone instead of that bulky thing with a HDMI cable.

Obviously you have NO IDEA what you are saying. I have the google chromecast. The lag is about 1 full second between monitor action and TV replication. Good luck playing games with that.

The shield minus the screen, with a cheaper price tag and smaller battery would be a pretty cool product, IMO. Specifically sell it as a steam local-streaming device.

So funny to see all the rant's/rave's about nvidia pricing and all it takes is a game bundle that prolly costs them $10-$15 to shutup the haters. Who cares if a better card at a lower price is coming out....we get games! Ya it's a nice gesture, but to me without price action accompanying it it's an insult to consumers. I would even say that i'm more biased towards them, but this combined with AMD's poor poor release of the new cards has made me wish I didn't have to buy from either.

Wow so we're in a video card forum which is 99% game-performance related. In this thread lets talk about video cards, how fast video cards run games, game bundles, shield (which plays and streams games), and streaming....BUT you didn't mean game streaming.

With a grey area like "reasonably happy" I'd say yes, but I've had to turn down a few things on a couple games already that I was hoping not to. With a wave of "next-gen" games on the horizon with some beefier requirements I'm starting to wonder if I'll be too behind the curve to give me the PC gaming edge I've had up till recently. Looking around it seems like the 280X DC2T would be a better value even with buying Batman on my own. Since I already have the games from the AMD bundles, it doesn't hurt to miss out on them with a 280x.
