Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 AGP X8 256 Mb. Ram for 90 euros worth it?

I just saw an offer the other day on a 5500 256 RAM for 90 euros. I currently have a 5200 with 128 RAM, probably with AGP X8, though I'm not sure. Anyways, one things sticks out: THIS CARD SUCKS!

I think this is something I need, but is it worth it? The 5200 is a few months old (I bought it specifically because my old MX didn't have pixel shading, and I had no idea it sucked so much). This looks like a good offer, but would it be better to save up and buy a better one? I'm not wasting more than 150 euros on it, I don't need to do anything else except play games with it. I don't want to do what I did last time: buying a cheap, crappy card. My motherboard supports AGP X8 and PCI (no PCI Express), so what card should I get, this 5500 or another one? Please give me suggestions, I don't care if its ATI or what it is, just as long as it is not more than 150 euros and relatively good, with pixel shading and at least 128 MB RAM.

PS. I saw several posts talking about the ti4200, is this a good buy?

DO NOT GET THIS CARD!!!!! How many times do we have to repeat that RAM isn't everything. Read this Link... it will explain everything.

If you dont feel like reading just get a 9800Pro or a 5900XT for around 170US. if thats too much get a used 9700pro or a used 5900XT or 9800Pro for around 130.

the gf fx 5500 cant use the extra 128 mb of ram so a 128 mb version is fine
if you can get at least an gf FX5700 128mb 128bit

if you really want a FX5500.. why don't get a Radeon 9550.. they're in the same line except that R9550 does perform better in most cases with FX5500.. That card is around US$75+..

or how about the 4200? stop trying to defend the 9550...its NOT a good buy for the price. just because you have it does NOT make it a worthwhile purchase.

Hey! I'm not defending it! I'm just suggesting to him that the R9550 is better than FX5500.. besides.. he looks like he wants a DX9-compatible card.. And how long are you going to defend the Ti4200 huh??!?

DX9 compatible != DX9 ready

and i will defend the 4200 as long as it is the best buy in the budget we are talking about. im sorry you got owned and bought the 9550 over the 4200, but please stop suggesting others buy it and make the same pitfall as you.

yes, they are. why would you buy one if there are better cards for the same price? if being a smart buyer makes me an old hag, then so be it.

same price? pardon me, but do you know that the "suggested" (R9600) card is US$50 more expensive than R9550 and is priced around with FX5200 locally! Plus the "better performer" card is out of stock in my town..

For a "Diamond Member" around this forum, you're not bad at giving sucky comments...

So take solace in an inferior product? Whatever floats your boat. We're simply telling you, there are better deals to be had.

I think I'm going to recommend that you become a lurker and keep your comments in Asia. No offense intended, but I do think you need to learn a little bit more about the graphics world before spouting off any type of advice. Just the fact that you recommended your card to someone else shows that you have not listened to one bit of advice given to you in here. So my advice to you now is to lurk for a while and learn.

Old Tech sux huh? Well, you just described ATI's whole line from the 9500pro on up to the X800XT. Based on 2 year old tech. What do you think of that? Go ahead and tell me ATI's X800's "old tech" sux.

Nip it in the bud man. Keep quiet and learn if your ego will let you.

Who do you think is the smarter person? The one who always runs his/her mouth off? Or the one that sits back and listens and tries to understand? Which one do you want to be?
