I think maybe they are trying to goad Nvidia into retaliation. A chance to slander them when they lash back? What do you think? Rory Read signed off on this? Keep an eye on AMD stock after this passes.

Don't 2 seconds trump a 1st and a last as far as the big picture goes? Just saying

Not usually from a business standpoint. Typically the guy in first usually makes 4-5x as much as the next guy, but the difference from second to last and last is usually much much closer.

Case and point: Nvidia made $530 million in profits 2Q 2014, AMD lost $36 million.

Who are these "Red Team" people and what do they do...?

The social media personalities (twitter, facebook, forums, etc.) that AMD has targeted because they're influential in their particular circles.

Depending on the red team member some times these people get GPUs, CPUs, PR items, and even visits to AMD offices from AMD.

On twitter you can usually recognize these people from the small red AMD banners in their profile pictures. Step into the right twitter conversation/thread (usually started by some AMD PR guy) and you'll be amazed how many of these people there actually are.

Some of them also advance into actual job positions at AMD, such as community reps for forums, PR guys in charge of twitter, facebook, etc. pages owned by AMD.

At the most basic level red team members are people who say they're red team members, wear the banner etc. But the more influential red team members (who've put out good PR for AMD on social media) are sometimes pseudo-employees, getting hardware, trips, or are in talks about getting hired.

Lmao you people and your hurt feelings. It's pitiful. You all are acting like AMD did some heinous, appalling, dastardly act. These are companies that, among other things, make things you play video games with. How serious do they have to be for gamers? They're making fun, and most of the level headed people know without an iota of a doubt that you all would LOVE this had it been Nvidia. Get over yourselves.

Idiotic overreaction level: 9000

I'm saving this for later. And remind me the last time Nvidia did anything like crash an AMD event? Or Intel event? If they did, I sure do not remember, but open to reminders.

So they're basically viral marketers. Interesting.

I bet very few even show up.

I heard they're planning on bringing a few (3-4) PCs with AMD cpus and gpus and turning them on at the same time to trip the building's breakers.

Guys, please remember to keep this thread civil, on topic, and to avoid flamebaiting and trolling. Otherwise it will be closed. Thanks

Heh, please do. My tinted glasses are neutral colored 😎

Just to add on to this, I really don't see the issue or why a few of you are so serious about it. It's as if the honor of Nvidia is ruined and you guys are out for blood and vengeance.... it's weird and I don't get it.

Or, it's just showing that AMD is childish. It's just another thing on the list like lying about Gsync adding lag.

I dont know how a company can be "childish." you don't like guerrilla marketing, like microsoft's destiny perfume or samsung's plethora of 'em?

they say, if you type this 3 times, a certain troll comes and must repeat it 100 times before it goes back into its cave.

the hate is strong in this thread, It called marketing and if you are thinking about AMD now, then I guess is has already worked.

As if anyone on this forum doesn't know who AMD is. This is bad press. Bad press regarding a company everyone already knows is just bad press.

"On Sept 18th and 19th we’ll be watching the #Game24 hashtag and the @AMDRadeon twitter channel for pictures of you in attendance at the events, proudly wearing your favorite red T-shirt. Boldly tweet pictures of yourself wearing your colors while at these events, and we’ll send some love your way. The funnier and more inventive the photos, the better – remember, this is a celebration! Make sure to mention @AMDRadeon so we can find your posts easily.”

3D, you forgot this part... asking people to wear Red to Nvidia's event. It's just a little much and, like tviceman said, in poor taste.

Sorry, I must have quit reading too soon. I didn't see that part. I think that's a bit over the top.

None of you have ever been to a football game it seems. People show up dressed stupid and root for the home team. In this case there are only two teams in the league. I enjoy the game so I'm not pulling for anyone. As these two battle it out the consumer is the winner.
I will continue to buy the best high end solution that fits my price point. If equally priced Nvidia would be my selection. That said, I swapped from sli 780ti classified to 850$ open box 295x2 last week. It performs equally without heat issue and I pocketed a lot of extra cash. Next time I find a deal on a superior combination the brand does not matter much.

What could possible go wrong for AMD urging its fans to go an event that seems to be organized to celebrate the launch of product that will crush its own offerings in any possible metric?

If a load of AMD fans turn up with their 290X's they could have a bench off with the 980...I bet that will work out well?!

I was tempted to attend the local event but its been full since about 10 minutes after the whole thing was announced.

If there's Redshirts among the Greenshirt crowd, this will not end well.

There will be a lot of emotionally bruised nerds.

If a lot of hot babes show up in RED then they'll be a lot of distracted nerds. This would be the approach I'd take if I was red leader 1. 🙂

As a current member of the blue team I find threads like these amusing to say the least.

That is the point I was making. http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=36706753&postcount=14

If you have to iterate to your potential crashers to "show respect" aka "don't cause problems" then it's a really, really bad idea to begin with and should never have been brought to fruition in the first place.

Potentially stirring the hornets nest is just a downright terrible idea. It's like Red Sox owner asking fans to show up to a Yankee's rally in New York City when both teams are in the playoffs. Most people won't care or might even have some fun with it, but there is that 5% on both sides who will take the bait and enjoy escalating things. And usually it's the 5% that are the party crashers and/or party defenders.

Or simply something like this: "There are a few AMD fans in his audience who can't wait to get their hands on a GTX980. Why don't we give them all a round of applause for finally seeing the light!"

The possibilities are endless: never go against a professional master of ceremony.
