Yeah, maybe AMD should grow up.

And saying that another company jumped on the "bandwagon" is really ridiculous. After all it's nVidia which has been done these kind of events a lot more than AMD. For example the huge reveal of Fermi at Pax East 2010.

NV has been the leader and probably always will be. AMD is second to Intel in CPUs and 2nd to NV in GPUs. It's just the way it is ;)

This will backfire on them. If not now, then down the road a spell.

I would rather think things like baiting your competitors into using your almost-20-year-old IP only to lawsuit them because your mobile campaign is falling altogether (including a naive attempt at licencing one of your GPU uarchs) is a bit more worth of bad press than trying to steal the thunder in someone's elses presentation.

With those lawsuit Nv confirmed they had become the Rambus of the mobile space.

Haha, wow, I guess I see what AMD is trying to do from a marketing standpoint, but it comes off not as good-natured ribbing but petulant childishness. This isn't a college football game for goodness sake. I hope there aren't fights or any messiness of that sort... but it might make for some good laughs later on.

Don't 2 seconds trump a 1st and a last as far as the big picture goes? Just saying

the hate is strong in this thread, It called marketing and if you are thinking about AMD now, then I guess is has already worked.

I think the point of marketing is to create a favorable impression of one's company and products. I'm not sure that this stunt by AMD necessarily hurts their image, but I don't think it builds any credibility or positive image either. It isn't "hate" to call out a company for a silly marketing attempt.

Literally crashing another company's party for no good reason is in poor taste to begin with. On top of that, if you have to iterate to your potential crashers to "show respect" aka "don't cause problems" then it's a really, really bad idea to begin with and should never have been brought to fruition in the first place.

Who knows... if this were 25 years ago, the "red team" was the communists. :colbert:. If it's tomorrow in Athens, GA, it's my Georgia Bulldogs.

Let me pull AMD's words out of the surrounding rhetoric of the article.
“No one appreciates a good celebration of gaming more than AMD, as evidenced by our recent #AMD30Live webcast and the warm and humbling reception the event received from the enthusiast community,” the letter begins. “In that spirit, we’re intrigued that another graphics products company jumped on the #AMD30Live bandwagon this week by announcing a similar event on September 18th and 19th, called #Game24.”

“We believe there is no such thing as a bad celebration of gaming, so we warmly encourage you to attend this event in person. Game24 events will be conveniently located in Chicago, IL, Indianapolis, IN, Mission Viejo, CA , Stockholm and Shanghai.”

A bit less nefarious when you only read what they actually said.

"On Sept 18th and 19th we’ll be watching the #Game24 hashtag and the @AMDRadeon twitter channel for pictures of you in attendance at the events, proudly wearing your favorite red T-shirt. Boldly tweet pictures of yourself wearing your colors while at these events, and we’ll send some love your way. The funnier and more inventive the photos, the better – remember, this is a celebration! Make sure to mention @AMDRadeon so we can find your posts easily.”

3D, you forgot this part... asking people to wear Red to Nvidia's event. It's just a little much and, like tviceman said, in poor taste.

Some people are really getting bent out of shape because AMD asked people to get a picture at an Nvidia event in a red t-shirt? Ok.

Monster, don't be intentionally naive. You know what AMD is trying to do. It's something rival high schools would do. Immature. But I'll be interested to see if anything goes awry at the events as a result of this. If so, I wonder if AMD will regret "stirring the pudding," as they say around here.

Ha, I actually liked the "try a different chip" Pringle campaign. Thought that was funny. This one, though, could potentially disrupt a huge event planned by a competitor at great expense. It just seems to go a little too far. Besides, who knows what a bunch of young gamers hopped up on Mountain Dew and Red Bull might do when clashing parties meet? ^_^
