I was over at the neighborhood BB looking for HL: Blue Shift.
When I saw this guy talking to a salesperson. He was being told that in order to play the original HL: GotY Edition, he would have to BUY a new rig from them complete with extended warranty.
I couldn't help but butt-in, say that was bs and proceeded to give the guy my advice on upgrading. Before I knew it, there was a group of people listening to what I had to say and that included the salespeople. Some (of the salespeople) challenged my views but the normal Joes promptly told them to stfu. It was the funniest thing.
After 5 minutes, the guy who was about to spend $2100 on a pre-built rig (just to play HL) left with just HL: GotY Edition and some knowledge of some online sites (such as AT, Tom's) to do more research and of some online retailers (Mwave, NewEgg) to make those upgrade choices cheaper than retail.

To keep this post on topic, I have a GF2 (semi-) Pro card and for a card that doesn't support d3d, it sure runs d3d games pretty damn well.
If someone at EB told me that, I'd probably sorta/kinda-listen but in actuality, I be laughing inside and eyeing the cute chick that just passed by.
