or because they are the fastest that money can buy?

Doesn't mean much when the gains are pretty much intangible to almost any average user. What's worse is you have to run @ 70 to 80c just to utilize that extra speed.

I'll pass.

We should start a class action against intel and see if we can get a billion to divy up. hell there giving everyone else a billion why not us to.
May be there is a reason why Intel wants to settle the case. You can sue Intel any day, whether you have a chance of winning/getting settlement from Intel is a different story.

Like Nvidia has said before in conference calls, etc., their future is Tegra, Tegra, Tegra. I just don't see Nvidia having any interest in the long, costly development of an x86 cpu.

How was it shortsighted?
If anything it was looking to the future, where AMD would have a GPU integrated with the CPU, meaning NV couldn't offer much extra through a chipset.

Well they could have been selling AM3 mobo's this entire time, I know that Ph2 and Athlon2's are exactly the top end CPU's but people are buying these processors with a good integrated graphics I'm sure plenty of Athlon2 X2 and X4 systems would have sold.

I mean they still haven't integrated the GPU yet and still won't be happening till mid to late next year.

This isn't an EU fine that can be appealed. This is a SETTLEMENT where both parties SETTLE on a final discourse to end the case.

that isn't how class action lawsuits work...
the lawyers will get 30 to 70% of the money, the rest will either go to charity (yes, really!), or will go into a pot from which each person can claim a tiny sliver of compensation (typically from a few cents, literally, to a few dollars) IF they have sufficient documentation to prove they were amongst the victims.

Again you side step . That is the link , Show me were NV gets anything . The FCC ruling on Nov3 shows nothing except Intel can't cut NV off at the knees befor 6 years are up . That same ruling by the FCC has opened up a flood gate. Does that ruling apply to AMD . No it doesn't . Does that ruling apply to NV no it doesn't . Intel is going to break itself up. You seen that move start with the New fab approach to outside users . Intel is worth5X broken up as it is a stand alone company.

Again you this topic NV fanbois have yet to show anything official and can't even point to were the billion dollar settlement number comes from .

You guys are ruining this forum .

An oc'd AMD quad could smack your q9550 in the mouth, meaning your chip has nothing to do with Intel's top end offerings. What's your point here?

yea, an OCed AMD quad COULD beat the q9550... but why compare stock to OC?
An OC q9550 will beat your OC AMD quad.
A stock q9550 will beat your AMD chip in stock.

AMD makes excellent budget priced chips, but your choice of comparison is quite odd...

Put your e-peen back in your trousers. I'm sure Amd makes some nice chips but when you want a truly high end rig there's only one player in the CPU market.

Ever since Intel and AMD started moving features from the chipset onto the CPU itself 3rd party chipset have been a dying buisness....big suprise *chough*

Maybe Nvidia should start making CPUs then so they can get a cut of the action?...Personally I wouldn't mind since its more choice for us.

then leave.

How does that work? Someone sees a problem, mentions it, gets told to leave?

How about: someone sees a problem, works to fix it, and the trash leave? I think that sounds and works better.

I think he made a salient point in any case. What was that expression..."Show me the money", yes, I think that'll work here.

the problem is that it is currently illegal for nvidia to make an x86 CPU, or they would have already. Patents are government enforced monopolies MEANT to foster innovation, but they went out of control and now stifle it (I am not saying do away with it, I am saying rein them in)

but instead nvidia is trying to pair up with ARM and pushes it as far as they can.
