Nvidia = AMD

Just curious as far as graphics cards go which ones are suppose to be each companies direct competitor(ie what is the Amd equivalent of a 660, 680 etc etc)? Do you categorize them by price or by model?

Example
Nvidia Titan = AMD 7990

If someone could give a break down it would be appreciated. I have always brought Nvidia cards so want to up graphics class awareness. Thanks for any replies

AMD and nVidia price them very competitively, but there are plenty of opinions (right here in VC&G) about which one is better for the money.

AMD will be making the 7990 themselves to compete against the Titan, with lower price. Right now the OEM 7990s and the 7970 CF is plagued with microstutter which AMD plan to especially fight with similar technology as Nvidia use with the 690.

While the HD 7990 may being marketed to go head to head with Titan, it is by no means a comparable product. The HD 7990 is most like a GTX 690. Both are multi-GPU products, the Titan is not.

Not that TPU is the best/only source, they just have convenient graphs and fairly new drivers, at least not from the introduction of the cards.

I find it interesting how they've (AMD and NV) priced the cards with the differences at stock filling every price hole they can. 🙂

Seriously, 7850 is a great overclocker, and 650ti boost is basically wringing all of the performance out of the 650 as is.

Still, I didn't realize how close it was stock Vs. stock.

You cant rate cards to the competitor card with OC, as it isnt a guarantee, so you have to go with out of the box clocks....

Thread title lead me to believe the contents of this thread were going to be crazy, I was pleasantly surprised (so far..)

But I will take this one step further. If cards overrate other cards simply because of a better overclock, that would indicate to me that the performance different was pretty small to begin with. I personally have not seen a performance increase overclocking a video card that made a game go from non-playable to playable.
