VRAM test proving 8GB isn't enough in Minecraft and Wolfenstein: https://www.pcgameshardware.de/Gefo...747/Tests/8-GB-vs-16-GB-Benchmarks-1360672/2/

The 3070 is the first card that actually interests me from the Ampere line.

I certainly hope so. I'm not racing to buy anything right now, especially not another 8GB card. But I am looking forward to see what the 3060Ti can do.

Yeah, 3060 and 3060 Ti and competitors are more in my price range, and I don't have a PC worthy of putting it in, so I am in for quite a wait.

Definitely nice to see the power draw much more under control with this one.

Makes you slightly wonder why A102 got so power hungry actually.

Looks like a really solid card. Hopefully the stock situation has been improved by holding the launch back by a few weeks.

I still think that this thing is going to be impossible to get though. It's pretty much 2080 Ti or better performance at less than half the price.

8GB looks limiting at this performance tier in Doom and Wolfenstein. Wonder how long before that impacts more games.

Witcher 3 was one I wanted to see, as it's a game I most want to play next when I upgrade my system, and it always seemed to be heavily swayed by memory BW.

2080Ti walks away from the 3070 in Witcher 3:

2080Ti is ~22% faster than 3070 at 1440p.

Indeed, I am thinking Nvidia overreached with GA102 on SS 8nm, GA104 certainly looks fine here even if the FE is likely hamstrung from only using 14gbps GDDR6 chips.

I was waiting for this review for a very long time. I had a 2060, have another in my spare machine, and this would about double my FPS. However, the 8gb limit really really bothers me, plus they don't have anything in stock.

Yes, means I won't have to pass my 550w to my son after all. I'm still waiting for the 3060 ti and the AMD cards, but as speculated the 2080ti is worth $400 USD MAX, although I know there are still dummies paying through the nose for them on Ebay.

That is a really old game now. You don't need a 3070 and you certainly don't need a massively overpriced 2080ti. Witcher 3 plays fine on my old 1060 3GB. Actually if that's the only game you're going to play, why not save $1,000 and play it on an old Xbox One?

Not much longer lol. When next gen games hit 8GB cards will tank.

Not necessarily. There have been lots of videos lately from reputable sites disproving this. ALLOCATION does not equal USAGE. Stuttering is the key metric. The vast majority won't buy a 3070 to play at 4K anyways. Actually the VAST majority aren't buying anything above a 3060/3050.

The 3070 seems to be approximately a 2080Ti with less memory at $500. Except, as you point out, the 3070 seems to kind of fall on its face a bit in some titles, at least with certain settings on (Doom Eternal, Metro Exodus, TW3, etc.). Not that it sucks in those titles, but it definitely drops a competitive tier for some reason.

PCGH did some interesting tests. I think the 8GB will be an issue @4k but at 1440p it should be okay.

impressive perf/Watt and even perf/$ where nVidia rarely does well on their upper models. still expensive though for a midrange card at 500$.
now the countdown begins for Big Navi.

RT benchmarks
Edit Vram benchmarks.Big stuttering on 8GB cards

What a judgmental leap missing the point entirely.

I said Witcher 3 is what I most want to play next. Not the only thing I want to play. I have a backlog of games that are crying out for a new PC and GPU. Even Witcher 2 was a struggle on my current PC. I'll probably replay that before playing Witcher 3.

Even if Witcher 3 were the only thing I wanted to play, I prefer PC to an old Xbox.

Witcher 3 is also getting graphics upgrade from CDPR which includes Ray Tracing.

Seems like the best card to get if you don't have a 4k monitor. Power consumption is surprisingly good. Wonder if we will see a price drop if AMD offers better performance with their equivalent 2nd tier card?

Sorry, that's the way it sounded. I'm actually enjoying playing my older games (like Combat Mission) with my peasant 1060 right now while I wait for the GPU nonsense to subside. I'm not sure why you mentioned the 2080ti then? Would you actually overpay for that card just to play Witcher 3?
